Crack-tip fields in a viscoplastic material

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1987
An integral representation for the particle velocity in terms of a Green function and certain linear combinations of the inelastic strain rates has been used in this paper, both for a numerical method to compute full field solutions and to develop unequivocal asymptotic expressions for the fields near a stationary crack tip.

Small-scale yielding interfacial crack-tip fields

Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 1992
By idealizing the crack surroundings as an isotropic elastic perfectly-plastic material with tensile yield strength σ bonded to a rigid or isotropic elastic substrate, the small-scale yielding (SSY) plane strain asymptotic lields for “elastically” traction-free interfacial cracks are numerically calculated.

Crack-tip fields in gradient enhanced elasticity

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2013
Abstract Nonlocal and gradient theories are capable of describing deformation of heterogeneous elastic materials better than classical elasticity theory. Crack-tip stress and strain fields in a gradient enhanced elastic material are derived on closed form.

Transient near tip fields in crack dynamics

Science China Physics, Mechanics and Astronomy, 2011
Transient effects of stress-strain fields in the vicinity of a stationary crack tip under high rate loads are discussed. Exact analytical solutions to near tip stresses are compared to fields prescribed by leading terms (one or several) of Williams asymptotic expansion.

Crack-Tip Field of a Supersonic Bimaterial Interface Crack

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2002
The sextic approach was used to investigate the asymptotic field of a bimaterial interface crack in the entire supersonic regime and extended to include the combination of isotropic and homogeneous materials, where the sextic method had been considered difficult. Application to typical systems was demonstrated.

Plastic near-tip fields for branched cracks

International Journal of Fracture, 1986
A procedure is outlined whereby the plastic near-tip stress and deformation fields for branched cracks are determined under plane strain and small scale yielding conditions. This method utilizes the known elastic stress intensity factor solutions and the universal mixed-mode plastic near-tip fields to determine the stress and deformation conditions at ...

Elastic Plastic Fracture: Crack Tip Fields

2012
The crack tip stress and strain fields for stationary and growting cracks in elastic-plastic materials are calculated here and the results used to gain insight into ductile fracture criteria such as the R-curve. The size of the plastic zone ahead of the crack is estimated using several models.
