Crack tip strain evolution and crack closure during overload of a growing fatigue crack [PDF]
It is generally accepted that fatigue crack growth is retarded after an overload, which has been explained either by plasticity-induced crack closure or near-tip residual stress.

A numerical study of non-linear crack tip parameters [PDF]
Crack closure concept has been widely used to explain different issues of fatigue crack propagation. However, different authors have questioned the relevance of crack closure and have proposed alternative concepts.

This paper deals with the effect of initial crack tip shape, plastic compressibility, and strain softening on near-tip stress-strain fields for a mode I crack subjected to fatigue loading under plane strain and small scale yielding. A finite strain-based

Origin of crack tip instabilities [PDF]
This paper demonstrates that rapid fracture of ideal brittle lattices naturally involves phenomena long seen in experiment, but which have been hard to understand from a continuum point of view. These idealized models do not mimic realistic microstructure, but can be solved exactly and understood completely.

Near tip strain evolution of a growing fatigue crack [PDF]
Near tip full-field strains in a growing fatigue crack have been studied in situ using the Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technique in a compact tension specimen of stainless steel 316L under tension-tension cyclic loading.

Study of overload effects in bainitic steel by synchrotron X-ray diffraction [PDF]
This work presents an in-situ characterisation of crack-tip strain fields following an overload by means of synchrotron X-ray diffraction. The study is made on very fine grained bainitic steel, thus allowing a very high resolution so that small changes ...

2D mapping of plane stress crack-tip fields following an overload [PDF]
The evolution of crack-tip strain fields in a thin (plane stress) compact tension sample following an overload (OL) event has been studied using two different experimental techniques.

Crack Tip Interpolation, Revisited
Using Williams's results for displacements \(u_k(r,\theta)=a_k+b_k(\theta)r^{1/2}+c_k(\theta)r+O(r^{3/2})\), the authors investigate crack tip singularities. It is proved that the coefficients of linear terms satisfy the relation \(c_k(\pi)=c_k(-\pi)\).
