Lattice instability at a fast moving crack tip [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A molecular dynamics method is used to analyze the dynamic propagation of an atomistic crack tip. The simulation shows that the crack propagates at a relatively constant global velocity which is well below the Rayleigh wave velocity.

Effect of Cold Working on the Driving Force of the Crack Growth and Crack Growth Rate of Welded Joints under One Overload

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
To understand the effect of cold working of welding heat-affected zone on the driving force of the crack growth and crack growth rate of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) near the welding fusion line, the finite element simulation method was used to ...

Fracture mechanics approach to design analysis of notches, steps and internal cut-outs in planar components [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A new approach to the assessment and optimization of geometric stress-concentrating features is proposed on the basis of the correspondence between sharp crack or corner stressfield intensity factors and conventional elastic stress concentration factors (

Numerical evaluation of crack tip opening displacements - 2D and 3D applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The numerical tools to compute elastic-plastic crack tip loading parameters J and CTOD are well established for arbitrary geometry and loading situations also including temperature gradients and stable crack propagation.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Influence of corrosion and creep on intergranular fatigue crack path in 2XXX aluminium alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper, two examples of the influence of time-dependent processes on crack path in two 2XXX aluminium alloys are presented. The first example is concerned with corrosion–fatigue crack growth resistance of a 2024 T351 alloy cracked in the S–L ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Effect of circular holes on the ratchet limit and crack tip plastic strain range in a centre cracked plate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper a centre cracked plate subjected to cyclic tensile loading and cyclic bending moment is considered. The effect of circular holes drilled in the region of the crack tip on the ratchet limit and crack tip plastic strain range is studied ...

Crack kinking at the tip of a mode I crack in an orthotropic solid [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Fracture, 2017
The competition between crack penetration and crack kinking is addressed for a mode I macroscopic crack in an orthotropic elastic solid. Cohesive zones of finite peak strength and finite toughness are placed directly ahead of and orthogonal to the plane of the parent crack.
