Intramolecular Nickel‐Catalyzed Reductive Coupling: Enantioselective Synthesis of Tetrahydroisoquinolines and Related Heterocycles

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The successful extension of the nickel‐catalyzed asymmetric coupling of polarized 1,3‐dienes with aldehydes to an intramolecular setting opens an efficient new entry into hydroxylated N‐heterocyclic compounds, most notably valuable tetrahydroisoquinolines.

‘Shelter is a Dignity’: Rental Racism, Stress and Housing (In)justice

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Australia's private rental sector is in crisis, and culturally and racially minoritised renters face compounded harms through both covert and everyday direct forms of rental racism. Drawing on five community‐based focus groups in Melbourne (n = 37), the paper explores how racism manifests across the rental pathway and how it structures the ...

Photometallobiocatalytic Asymmetric Radical‐Mediated Cross‐Coupling of Organotrifluoroborate Salts and Pyridotriazoles

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An enantioselective photometallobiocatalytic cross‐coupling of pyridotriazoles and secondary alkyltrifluoroborate salts is developed. Cooperative catalysis using eosin B and an engineered protoglobin combines visible‐light‐mediated radical generation with enzymatic metal carbenoid activation, affording valuable N‐heterocyclic products in excellent ...

Intensified Manufactured Non‐Belonging: Working Holiday Makers in Australia During the COVID‐19 Pandemic

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nations manufacture non‐belonging of temporary migrants through policy frameworks that produce exclusion. This precarity maximises the economic benefit of temporary migrant labour by minimising their political, social and legal rights. In this paper, we examine how non‐belonging targeting Working Holiday Makers (WHMs) is manufactured in ...

Adenylation Domain Engineering Enables Biosynthesis of an Improved Polymyxin Antibiotic

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
To enable incorporation of l‐2‐aminodecanoic acid into polymyxin by fermentation, a single Trp‐to‐Ala substitution is rationally introduced into the adenylation‐domain residue of its nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) and efficiently switches substrate selectivity. The engineered strain produces biologically active Ada‐polymyxin, demonstrating that

High-Compression Crash Simulations and Tests of PLA Cubes Fabricated Using Additive Manufacturing FDM with a Scaling Strategy

open access: yesComputation
Impacts due to drops or crashes between moving vehicles necessitate the search for energy absorption elements to prevent damage to the transported goods or individuals. To ensure safety, a given level of acceptable deceleration is provided.

Thinking Outside the Binding Site: A Self‐Encapsulating Kinase Inhibitor Remodels Its Pocket to Achieve Selectivity

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
To make exceptionally effective drugs, thinking “outside the binding site” is required. This work reveals that counterintuitive targeting of a kinase‐conserved region can lead to highly selective binding. Inhibitor discovery coupled to x‐ray crystallography shows that a network of noncanonical interactions and long‐range effects of distant unique amino
