Adhesion and wear of diamond: formation of nanocracks and adhesive craters of torn out material [PDF]
Mechanical transformation of rough diamonds into brilliant ones is usually achieved by polishing using microsized abrasive diamond particles. It is shown that in addition to formation of periodic pattern of ‘partial’ Hertzian cone cracks on the diamond surface, nano-sized domains (50–150 nm in diameter) of crumbled material are observed.

Crater Wear Prediction of Coated Tools.
No matter what wear mechanism controls tool wear, tool wear rate can be expressed as functions of stress and temperature on the tool face. Thus stress and temperature distributions on the rake face were measured with split tools and with thermocouples respectively to obtain wear equations.

A study on the crater wear of cermet tools. Wear mechanism at high speed cutting.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the wear mechanism at high speed cutting, that is, high tool face temperature where mutual diffusion at interface comes to active. The relation is investigated and discussed between the crater wear rate and the condition of diffusion layer by cutting test and dynamic diffusion test, for reference.
