CONSULTANCY STATE: Government as (a) Service and the Anti‐politics of Technological Expertise in Indian Cities

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract This article analyses ideas of ‘good governance through technology’ in India that first emerged from the software industry, symbolizing state support for the ‘new middle‐class’ values of liberalized private enterprise. We suggest that the contemporary prominence of consulting firms in government represents a second transformation that embeds ...

Staff Preferences for Operating Theatre Scrub Attire

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
A Children's Hospital operating theatre staff survey showed preferences for dark blue over light blue scrubs, and those with an elastic waistband and trouser style pockets. Thematic reasons include: comfort/fit/availability, professionalism, functionality/practicality, dignity/self‐esteem, modesty/privacy, stains/sweat/dirt and safety.

Creasing of Multilayer Polymer Films

open access: yes, 2014
A soft elastic material placed under compressive stress can undergo a surface creasing instability in which the free interface becomes directly unstable to the formation of sharp self-contacting features.

The Provenance of Silver in the Viking‐Age Hoard From Bedale, North Yorkshire

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The acquisition of silver was a key motive propelling the Viking expansion out of Scandinavia; identifying the sources of Viking silver during the early part of the Viking Age can provide critical insights into the relative significance of western European and eastern, Islamic wealth in the Viking expansion.

Creasing-based creping of fiber-based substrates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The overall objectives of this project were to find out if fiber-based materials could be creped by creasing process and to design creping patterns that affect the material elongation.

How we can use multivariate statistical analysis to predict creasing of fabrics

open access: yes, 2014
The creasing of textiles was evaluated by means of the innovative method of measuring the angle of recovery. Our aim is to find statistically significant features contributing to the determination of creasing materials.

SDFs from Unoriented Point Clouds using Neural Variational Heat Distances

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from unoriented point clouds. We first compute a small time step of heat flow (middle) and then use its gradient directions to solve for a neural SDF (right). Abstract We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from ...

Basis Networks: Learning basis functions for free‐form triangulations

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We present a framework for learning compactly supported basis functions that define tangent continuous surfaces based on coarse irregular triangle meshes. The basis functions are represented as MLPs. Smoothness of the basis functions is achieved by using the values of Loop basis functions as the parameterization of the surface.

Deformation dynamics in creasing and folding of board

open access: yes, 2019
Laboratory creasing and folding experiments, with dynamics similar to that of real production, were carried out to study cracking mechanisms of coated folding box boards. The study included three double-coated board grades with varied strength properties
