Haematological and serum biochemical reference interval for free‐ranging northern bettongs (Bettongia tropica) in far north Queensland

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Background The northern bettong, Bettongia tropica, is an endangered potoroid recognised as a specialist consumer of underground ectomycorrhizal fungi important to wet sclerophyll forest at the interface with tropical rainforest. In line with identified recovery objectives of re‐establishing populations within the species' former range, a founder ...

Prognostic factors in bushfire‐affected koalas–Kangaroo Island bushfire response 2020

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
This study presents a retrospective analysis of clinical records data from koalas presenting for treatment following the large‐scale bushfire event on Kangaroo Island 2019–2020. The aim of the study was to identify prognostic factors for koalas affected by bushfire. Koalas (n = 199) were grouped based on their burn status in combination with their burn

Establishing updated haematological and biochemical reference intervals for urban brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula) in Australia

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Reference intervals (RIs) or reference ranges are crucial tools in clinical practice and research, aiding in the interpretation of laboratory test results by providing values expected in a healthy population. This paper provides haematology and biochemistry reference intervals and ranges established from a population of urban brushtail possums ...

Echinococcus granulosus antigen B regulates T‐cell function through inhibition of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 in experimental immune thrombocytopenia

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
During the pathological process of immune thrombocytopenia, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is activated by JAKs, leading to the production of a large number of inflammatory cytokines and promoting the activation of Th1, Th2 and Th17 cells.

Protective role of Angiogenin in muscle regeneration in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Diagnostic and therapeutic implications

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Elevated angiogenin levels in skeletal muscle are linked to slower disease progression, enhanced regeneration, and vascularization through satellite‐endothelial interaction during myogenesis in ALS. Angiogenin and its tiRNAs may serve as prognostic markers and therapeutic targets for ALS.
