Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

The Scientific Creationism [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Philosophy, Social and Human Disciplines, 2016
The subject of the present paper is the analysis of the origin of the universe, time, life, mankind and of the geological column, from the perspective of the creationist model, and through comparisons with the evolutionist model.

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Comparing Contemporary Evangelical Models Regarding Human Origins

open access: yesReligions, 2023
Multiple viewpoints exist among Protestant Evangelical Christians regarding human origins, with each offering different answers to questions regarding the existence of Adam and Eve and their relationship to humanity, common human–ape ancestry, evolution ...

Creation of a zymogen [PDF]

open access: yesNature Structural Biology, 2002
Cells produce proteases as inactive zymogens. Here, we demonstrate that this tactic can extend beyond proteases. By linking the N and C termini of ribonuclease A, we obstruct the active site with the amino acid sequence recognized by plasmepsin II, a highly specific protease from Plasmodium falciparum.

Versatile vector tools for efficient protein screening across multiple expression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A unified vector toolkit enables rapid protein expression screening across E. coli, insect, and mammalian cells. A single primer pair amplifies the target gene, which is inserted into any vector via a standardized interface. This streamlined workflow eliminates repeated cloning steps, accelerating the identification of optimal expression conditions for

Creation and evolution: A relationship fraught with misunderstandings

open access: yesHTS Teologiese Studies/Theological Studies, 2019
The relationship between evolution and creation, both religiously and ideologically, continues to be a source of misunderstandings that occur at various levels and is further explored in this article.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Intelligent Design and Resurgent Creationism

open access: yes, 2017
This chapter examines the antievolutionists' move away from arguing with scientists and toward providing a scientific-sounding argument for mass consumption, usually in the guise of “intelligent design” (ID)—a tactic that allowed creationism to appeal to
