Impacts of fire on canopy structure and its resilience depend on successional stage in Amazonian secondary forests

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, Volume 11, Issue 4, Page 394-410, August 2025.
We analyzed the effects of fire on secondary forests' vertical structure in different successional stages using lidar metrics. Our results show that independently of the successional stage, secondary forests that experienced fire were more degraded than unburned secondary forest areas. Overall, our results show that forests in early successional stage (

Complex and Dynamic Effects of an Extreme Low Temperature Weather Event on Invasive Plant Populations and Resident Communities

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 3, March 2025.
Invasive plant species might benefit more from climate change, though evidence for that is not clear. Here, we show that the effects of a low‐temperature extreme weather event can result in a dramatic reduction in both vegetative and reproductive growth of invasive populations of Gunnera tinctoria (giant rhubarb) in the west of Ireland.

Relationships between grain yield and accumulation of biomass, nitrogen and phosphorus in common bean cultivars Relações entre o rendimento de grãos e a acumulação de biomassa, nitrogênio e fósforo em cultivares de feijoeiro

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo, 2008
Shoot biomass is considered a relevant component for crop yield, but relationships between biological productivity and grain yield in legume crops are usually difficult to establish. Two field experiments were carried out to investigate the relationships

Crescimento e nutrição da Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu inoculada com bactéria promotora de crescimento vegetal e sob diferentes doses de nitrogênio

open access: yesResearch, Society and Development, 2020

Ecosystem type affects how Amazonian tree species invest in stem and twig wood

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 38, Issue 7, Page 1486-1496, July 2024.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Wood density (WD) is a key functional trait for its importance in tree performance and in biomass calculations of forests. Yet, the variation of WD among different woody tree parts, how this varies across ecosystems, and how this influences estimates of forest carbon ...

Salinity reduced growth PS2 photochemistry and chlorophyll content in radish Crescimento reduzido por salinidade, fotoquímica PS2 e conteúdo de clorofila em rabanete

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2007
When plants are grown under saline conditions, photosynthetic activity decreases leading to reduced plant growth, leaf area, chlorophyll content and chlorophyll fluorescence.

Morphological and physiological alterations induced by lactofen in soybean leaves are reduced with nitric oxide Alterações morfológicas e fisiológicas induzidas por lactofen em folhas de soja são reduzidas com o óxido nítrico

open access: yesPlanta Daninha, 2011
Lactofen is a diphenylether herbicide recommended to control broad-leaved weeds in soybean (Glycine max) fields and its mechanism of action is the inhibition of protoporphyrinogen-IX oxidase (Protox), which acts in the chlorophyll biosynthesis.
