Early Cretaceous plutonic rocks at Creswick Peaks in NW Palmer Land, Antarctic Peninsula show evidence of synmagmatic crustal extension and deformation during emplacement and cooling at 141 ±2 Ma. Deformation textures, ranging from sub-magmatic phenocryst alignment to ultramylonite, are preserved in granodiorite.

Cretaceous magmatism from the Sava-Vardar Zone of the Balkans
2023Кеy words: Upper Cretaceous magmatism, Sava Vardar Zone, Adria, basaltsThe complex geodynamic evolution of the northernmost Neotethys is the subject of a long-living controversy. The most perplexing issues are related to the waning stage(s) of the Tethyan ocean(s) in the Balkans and the timing of the Europe-Adria collision.

Late Cretaceous to Oligocene Magmatic Evolution of the Neuquén Basin
2020Geochemical variations in arc- and within-plate magmatic associations since Late Cretaceous times are analyzed and correlated with the main tectonic changes that influenced the Neuquen Basin evolution. The collision and southward migration of the Farallon-Aluk mid-ocean ridge along the Chilean trench since 80 Ma have played an important role in ...

Paleomagnetism of the Cretaceous Alkaline Magmatism of the Lusitanian Basin, Portugal
2021<p>The paleogeographic reconstructions of the Iberian plate during the opening of the Atlantic Ocean is still poorly constrained. Major limitations include the paucity of high quality paleomagnetic poles and geochronological constrains, the occurrence of widespread remagnetization events, and controversial seafloor magnetic anomalies ...

Cretaceous magmatism and lithospheric extension in Southeast China
Journal of Asian Earth Sciences, 2000Abstract A new compilation of reliable isotope age data indicates that Cretaceous magmatism in SE China occurred in four major episodes during 136–146 Ma, 122–129 Ma, 101–109 Ma and 87–97 Ma. A-type granitic and within-plate basaltic magmatism from 140–90 Ma suggests a dominant extensional environment in the region.

Cretaceous and Cenozoic magmatism
1985Kimberlite dykes and pipes found in many parts of the West African craton are probably mainly of Cretaceous age, but some may be much older. Several are diamondiferous. A suspected kimberlite in Nigeria is probably a basaltic explosion vent.

New chemical and Sr-Nd isotopic data on the Late Cretaceous mafic dike swarm intruding the Archean-Proterozoic crystalline basement in the Tamatave-Sainte Marie Island sector (northeast coast passive margin), and on lavas and dikes of the northeastern part of the Mahajanga sedimentary basin (passive margin after the opening of the Jurassic-Cretaceous ...

Cretaceous oceanic anoxic event 2 triggered by a massive magmatic episode
Nature, 2008Oceanic anoxic events (OAEs) were episodes of widespread marine anoxia during which large amounts of organic carbon were buried on the ocean floor under oxygen-deficient bottom waters. OAE2, occurring at the Cenomanian/Turonian boundary (about 93.5 Myr ago), is the most widespread and best defined OAE of the mid-Cretaceous. Although the enhanced burial

The Cretaceous-Paleogene magmatism of the Sredinnyi range of Kamchatka: Magma sources
Journal of Volcanology and Seismology, 2008Based on published and new data, a new petrological model of the preorogenic Late Cretaceous-Paleogene intrusive rock association is suggested. The principle of plume geodynamics is the essential one: homodromous intrusion of dunite-clinopyroxenite-gabbro magmas into upper layers of the lithosphere results from melting of a nonuniform substratum of the
