Shared Genetic Effects and Antagonistic Pleiotropy Between Multiple Sclerosis and Common Cancers

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Epidemiologic studies have reported inconsistent altered cancer risk in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Factors such as immune dysregulation, comorbidities, and disease‐modifying therapies may contribute to this variability.

Whole‐Body Pattern of Muscle Degeneration and Progression in Sarcoglycanopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize whole‐body intramuscular fat distribution pattern in patients with sarcoglycanopathies and explore correlations with disease severity, duration and age at onset. Methods Retrospective, cross‐sectional, multicentric study enrolling patients with variants in one of the four sarcoglycan genes who underwent whole‐body ...

Defining critical current

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1977
The critical current of a practical superconductor can be defined in a variety of ways such as a specific voltage level, an apparent resistivity, or even the point of the irreversible superconducting-to-normal transition. The resultant values may differ very little or be meaningless for one given condition, but when comparing superconductors under a ...

Local critical current variability and bulk critical current in long superconductors

Physica C: Superconductivity, 1989
The critical currents of metallic silver-superconducting oxide composite ribbons were determined locally and as a function of length to illustrate local critical current variability and its effects on bulk critical current as conductor length increases.

Critical currents in Nb3Al

Solid State Communications, 1972
Abstract Alternating current measurements on Nb 3 Al have shown that large amounts of the sample are driven normal at relatively low fields. Small variations of T c are associated with very large variations of H c 2 , caused, most probably, by varying degrees of disorder.

Cracks and critical current

Journal of Applied Physics, 1991
In superconductors, cracks (of width w ≳ ξs) are effective in enhancing local supercurrent, and we calculate the size of these supercurrent hot spots as a function of the crack length a and the London penetration depth λ using the two-dimensional (2D) London theory.

Critical-Current Measurements

2006
Abstract This chapter presents techniques for critical-current-data acquisition. Firstly it describes the principal ways of defining critical-current density (which can lead to vastly different values). It then offers suggestions of where to put your money when assembling a quality instrumentation system.

Critical current in HgBa2CuOy

1994
The investigation of the critical current density in HgBa2CuOy has been done. Ceramic HgBa2CuOy has been synthesized from the mixture of HgO, BaO and CuO in evacuated quartz tube at 750°C for 1h. Three types of samples, as-sintered and post-annealed in argon and in oxygen, were prepared. Pulverized samples were aligned by magnetic field of 8T in resin.

Critical-Current Data Analysis

2006
Abstract This chapter begins with a discussion of the methods of defining critical current that are practical. It then looks at the notorious problem of current-transfer voltages and how to correct them; all too often, these extraneous voltages interfere with obtaining good critical current data on short, high-current samples, but there ...
