Critical behavior of the spin correlation function in Ashkin-Teller and Baxter models with a line defect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We consider the critical spin-spin correlation function of the Ashkin-Teller and Baxter models. By using path-integral techniques in the continuum description of these models in terms of fermion fields, we show that the correlation decays with distance ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Parametric study on the effect of anchors geometry on the stress distribution and crack initiation direction in a concrete body

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity
This work deals with investigations of the stress field distribution around a steel anchor embedded in a concrete. Tensile loading - pulling force of the steel anchor is considered, which is very often connected to concrete cone failure.

Analysis of attractor distances in Random Boolean Networks

open access: yes, 2010
We study the properties of the distance between attractors in Random Boolean Networks, a prominent model of genetic regulatory networks. We define three distance measures, upon which attractor distance matrices are constructed and their main statistic ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Criticality in single-distance phase retrieval

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
We investigate why in free-space propagation single-distance phase retrieval based on a modified contrast-transfer function of linearized Fresnel theory yields good results for moderately strong pure-phase objects. Upscaling phase-variations in the exit plane, the growth of maxima of the modulus of the Fourier transformed intensity contrast dominates ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Critical behavior of the long-range Ising chain from the largest-cluster probability distribution

open access: yes, 2000
Monte Carlo simulations of the 1D Ising model with ferromagnetic interactions decaying with distance $r$ as $1/r^{1+\sigma}$ are performed by applying the Swendsen-Wang cluster algorithm with cumulative probabilities.

Correlation Functions of a Conformal Field Theory in Three Dimensions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
We derive explicit forms of the two--point correlation functions of the $O(N)$ non-linear sigma model at the critical point, in the large $N$ limit, on various three dimensional manifolds of constant curvature.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
