Abstract The corrosivity of soils towards mild steel, in general, has been found to be at maximum at 65% moisture content of their Water Holding Capacity, which may be termed as “Critical Soil Moisture Content”. Corrosion of mild steel in a soil becomes appreciable, only when the soil moisture content ⩾ 50 % of its water holding capacity.
