Strength improvement of critical-sized three dimensional printing parts by infiltration of solvent-free visible light-cured resin

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, 2006
The use of light-cured acrylate resin as an infiltrant can enhance flexural modulus and flexural strength of natural polymers based three dimensional printing (3DP) parts to be closed to general use of polymethyl methacrylate resin. It was observed that flexural properties of infiltrated specimens were influenced by infiltration conditions.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

The Man behind the Music: Beethoven’s Critical Early Years [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The early years of Ludwig van Beethoven’s life are not usually emphasized as much as his later days writing symphonies, but they were critical in his development towards musical virtuosity.

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...

Dietary nitrate and nitrite protect against doxorubicin‐induced cardiac fibrosis and oxidative protein damage in tumor‐bearing mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapies such as doxorubicin can have toxic effects on healthy cardiovascular/heart tissue. Following up on a doxorubicin toxicity study in mice without tumors where nitrate water was cardioprotective (lessened toxicity), this study with tumor‐bearing mice undergoing doxorubicin treatment showed no negative effect of nitrate and nitrite on drug ...

Impact of a senior research thesis on students' perceptions of scientific inquiry in distinct student populations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study addressed how a senior research thesis is perceived by undergraduate students. It assessed students' perception of research skills, epistemological beliefs, and career goals in Biochemistry (science) and BDC (science‐business) students. Completing a thesis improved confidence in research skills, resilience, scientific identity, closed gender‐

Naked cuticle is essential for Drosophila wing development beyond Wingless signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Naked cuticle (Nkd), a Wnt signaling inhibitor, assumes extensive roles in Drosophila wing development. Overexpressing Nkd causes smaller, crumpled wings, while also perturbing multiple signaling pathways and developmental genes. A specific region (R1S) is critical for Nkd's function as a signaling integrator, offering new insights for studying its ...

A systematic review of machine learning-based prognostic models for acute pancreatitis: Towards improving methods and reporting quality.

open access: yesPLoS Medicine
BackgroundAn accurate prognostic tool is essential to aid clinical decision-making (e.g., patient triage) and to advance personalized medicine. However, such a prognostic tool is lacking for acute pancreatitis (AP).
