The Critical Speed of Crankshafts

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1936
AN outstanding feature relevant to the consideration of shaft whip phenomena is that intermediate bearings cannot be depended upon to eliminate whip by reducing the free shaft length, for under these conditions the forces tending to produce whip are still present and are transmitted to the bearings in the form of shocks which are likely to coincide ...

Critical speed of high-speed trains considering wheel-rail contact

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2015
The maximum speed of a high-speed train is limited to its critical speed. In this study, the definition of critical speed is reviewed. The relationship between creepage and creep force and the effects of the parameters of the first and second suspension systems are also studied using a bogie model to increase the critical speed.

Critical Speed Vibration - Modal Balance

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1964
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper describes a method of attaching masses to a shaft in specified correction planes and eliminating resonant vibration amplitudes. It is shown that the presence of a single form of elastic deflection in the operating range requires only one correction plane and that two forms (that is, two modes of ...

Vibrations and Critical Speeds

1969
Suppose a mass m to be carried on an elastic support, such as a spring, which has a stiffness k (force per unit extension). Then, if the mass is given a displacement x from its equilibrium position, the support will exert a restoring force equal to kx.

Critical running speeds and stability of high-speed flexible mechanisms

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 1984
Abstract A procedure is presented for determining critical running speeds of flexible mechanisms. In this procedure, the flexible links are represented by finite elements. Governing equation components, throughout a cycle, are represented by truncated Fourier series.

Distance Capacity Above the Critical Speed and Speed Reserves: are they Related?

International Journal of Sports Medicine
AbstractThe aim of this study was to correlate the anaerobic speed reserve and the maximal speed reserve with the distance capacity above the critical speed (D′), derived from four different mathematical models, in a group of endurance runners.

THE CRITICAL SPEEDS OF TORSIONAL VIBRATION

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1920
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Vibrations of several kinds can occur in crankshafts, but the principal ones are transverse and torsional; the paper deals entirely with the latter. A simple case of torsional vibration is considered first and the principles are applied to the torsional vibration of a shaft, the argument being carried forward at ...
