On‐Chip Evaluation of Red Blood Cell Deformability Through Transit Velocity Index in Hematological Diseases

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The deformability of red blood cell is essential for smooth microcirculation. We propose a deformability index using a microfluidic platform with capillary‐like constrictions, based on the relationship between cell deformation and transit velocity through the constrictions. Its effectiveness and clinical potential have been demonstrated in applications

Parametric optimization of turning operation on stainless steel using a carbide tool [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The term microturning is used to refer to operation processes occurring at dimensions of 1 to 999 micrometres. Stainless steel is a widely used material in day to day applications.

A thermoplastic microfluidic platform with integrated electrospun scaffolds for assessing brain cell‐specific drug selectivity

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the microfluidic platform with its advantages. Abstract A major challenge in pharmacology is the limited selectivity of therapeutic compounds toward specific tissues or cells. Drugs often distribute systemically before reaching the intended site of action, affecting nontarget cells and potentially reducing efficacy or ...

Elastic Deformation of Soft Coatings Due to Lubrication Forces

open access: yes, 2017
Elastic deformation of rigid materials with soft coatings (stratified materials) due to lubrication forces can also alter the interpretation of dynamic surface forces measurements and prevent contact formation between approaching surfaces.

Numerical analysis of the tool wear effect in the machining induced residual stresses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Machining is a dynamic process involving coupled phenomena: high strain and strain rate and high temperature. Prediction of machining induced residual stresses is an interesting objective at the manufacturing processes modelling field.

Chaos-induced transparency in an ultrahigh-Q optical microcavity

open access: yes, 2012
We demonstrate experimentally a new form of induced transparency, i.e., chaos-induced transparency, in a slightly deformed microcavity which support both continuous chaotic modes and discrete regular modes with Q factors exceeding 3X?10^7.

FE‐Based Biomechanical Analysis of AZ31B Sub‐Orbital Osteosynthesis Implant Manufactured by Superplastic Forming

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, Volume 9, Issue 5, May 2026.
A concurrent finite‐element framework is presented for the design of a patient‐specific AZ31B sub‐orbital osteosynthesis implant manufactured by superplastic forming. The approach couples process simulation and biomechanical analysis to quantify the effects of thickness heterogeneity and grain‐growth‐induced strength degradation.

Vertical‐Component Seismic Response and System Identification of a 52‐Story High‐Rise Building Using Earthquake Data

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra, Volume 42, Issue 2, May 2026.
This study investigates the vertical dynamic response of a 52‐story high‐rise building in downtown Los Angeles using small‐magnitude earthquake data recorded by the Community Seismic Network. While seismic design traditionally emphasizes horizontal ground motion, vertical accelerations can have a significant impact on tall structures, leading to ...

Cell Mechanics in Cancer: Integrating Mechanotransduction Pathways Within the Tumor Microenvironment

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Physiology, Volume 241, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Single‐cell mechanical properties such as stiffness, elasticity, and viscosity, are crucial in governing biological processes like migration, proliferation, and differentiation. In cancer, the mechanical properties of cells undergo significant alterations, which contribute to tumor growth, metastasis, and resistance to therapy.

Dynamic simulation of a peristaltic micropump considering coupled fluid flow and structural motion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper presents lumped-parameter simulation of dynamic characteristics of peristaltic micropumps. The pump consists of three pumping cells connected in series, each of which is equipped with a compliant diaphragm that is electrostatically actuated in
