The chromosomes of the order Crocodilia

The somatic karyotypes of the 21 surviving species of the order Crocodilia are presented. The population surveyed totals 71 animals, with representatives of both sexes in 13 species. No karyotypic differences were observed among the multiple specimens within a given species or subspecies.

The external ear in Crocodilia

Summary.  Crocodilians possess a slit‐like external auditory meatus, bounded above by a large superior ear‐flap, and below and in front by a small inferior ear‐flap. The anterior part of the meatus in living animals is usually open when the top of the head is out of water and closed when it is submerged.
