The Philippine crocodile (Crocodylus mindorensis) is considered one of the most endangered of the crocodilian species.Rumors or anecdotal concerns have existed for some time as to the possibility of hybrid individuals existing in a captivecollection under consideration for providing reintroduction candidates; however, visual observations failed to ...

Purification and Characterization of Ovotransferrin from Crocodylus siamensis
The Protein Journal, 2013Ovotransferrin (OTf) is the major glycoprotein in reptile egg whites. However, knowledge concerning its functional and biological properties remains limited. In this study, OTf from Crocodylus siamensis was purified and characterized. The proteins were precipitated with 80 % ammonium sulfate and then purified by anion exchange chromatography followed ...

Journal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological Genetics and Physiology, 2008
AbstractDetecting and quantifying hybridization between endangered or threatened taxa can provide valuable information with regards to conservation and management strategies. Hybridization between members of the genus Crocodylus has been known to occur in captivity and in some wild populations.

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1988
1. Nile crocodiles, reared in fresh water and exposed acutely to seawater, suffer marked dehydration and hypernatraemia. Cloacal urine osmolarity and potassium concentration increased markedly but urine sodium remains low. 2. Hypernatraemia is increased when secretion from the lingual salt glands is prevented. 3. C.

Purification, Characterization, and Crystallization of Crocodylus siamensis Hemoglobin
The Protein Journal, 2014Crocodylus siamensis hemoglobin was purified by a size exclusion chromatography, Sephacryl S-100 with buffer containing dithiothreitol. The purified Hb was dissociated to be two forms (α chain and β chain) which observed by SDS-PAGE, indicated that the C. siamensis Hb was an unpolymerized form.

Poxvirus infection in Nile crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus)
Research in Veterinary Science, 1990An outbreak was encountered of numerous yellowish cutaneous nodules in one- to two-year-old farmed Nile crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus) in Kasaba Bay Crocodile Farm at Lake Tanganyika in Zambia during 1988. Out of 4000 crocodiles of different age groups, 300 yearlings were affected and 82 of those affected died. The lesions were prominent on the head,

Identification of purebredCrocodylus siamensisfor reintroduction in Vietnam
Journal of Experimental Zoology, 2002AbstractCrocodylus siamensis, the Siamese crocodile, is a critically endangered species of freshwater crocodile previously distributed throughout much of SE Asia. Recovery plans call for reintroductions to the wild using founder individuals currently in captivity, mostly in commercial crocodile farms. On many farmsC.

Pharmacokinetics of carprofen in Siamese crocodiles (Crocodylus siamensis)
Research in Veterinary ScienceCarprofen (CAR) is an NSAID commonly used in veterinary medicine that preferentially inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thereby mitigating inflammation and pain while minimizing adverse effects linked to cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) inhibition. This study characterizes the pharmacokinetics of CAR in Siamese crocodiles (Crocodylus siamensis) and was ...

Chemical composition of the eggs of the crocodile (Crocodylus novaeguineae)
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1975Abstract 1. 1. Eggs of Crocodylus novaeguineae were partitioned into shell, shell membrane and contents and, where applicable, embryo. 2. 2. The calcium content of each part of the egg and the carbonate content of the shell was measured. 3. 3.
