Microbes Associated with Crops: Functional Attributes for Crop Productivity

2021
Microorganisms associated with plants can affect their health positively or negatively, thus influencing hugely crop yield and productivity. Several investigations have reported that the microbes associated with different plants are much diversified.

Observations on bacteria associated with pigeon crop

Folia Microbiologica, 1990
Lactobacilli, streptococci and coliforms of pigeon crop contents, 5th wash, macerate and those of first-day pigeon milk have been studied. Streptococci predominated in all the samples tested. Relatively higher counts of lactobacilli and streptococci in crop macerate than in the 5th wash suggested the adhesion of these bacteria to crop wall.

Crop-Associated Weeds

2004
Some weeds are always associated with a particular crop and inhabit only the cropland, rarely expanding into other habitats. They have adapted to the habitats which man disturbs for the crop cultivation. Such weeds are the product of evolution under the specific selection pressures imposed by the crop cultivation over many years.

Association genetics in crop improvement

Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2010
Increased availability of high throughput genotyping technology together with advances in DNA sequencing and in the development of statistical methodology appropriate for genome-wide association scan mapping in presence of considerable population structure contributed to the increased interest association mapping in plants. While most published studies

Family-based association mapping in crop species

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 2013
Identification of allelic variants associated with complex traits provides molecular genetic information associated with variability upon which both artificial and natural selections are based. Family-based association mapping (FBAM) takes advantage of linkage disequilibrium among segregating progeny within crosses and among parents to provide greater ...
