Growth Rate and % N of Field Grown Crops: Theory and Experiments

Annals of Botany, 1991
Mechanistic equations were developed to link the % N in plant dry matter to plant mass per unit area and to various expressions of growth rate. They were tested against the results of multi-harvest, multi-N-level fertilizer field experiments on French beans, potatoes, tall fescue and winter wheat.

Crop growth and relative growth rates of old and modern wheat cultivars

Australian Journal of Agricultural Research, 1991
An analysis of the dynamics of green area index (GAI), dry matter (DM), relative growth rate (RGR) and crop growth rate (CGR) based on growing degree days (GDD) is presented for a historical series of wheats commercially released in Western Australia. Relative to the old cultivars, modern wheats were characterized by a greater RGR during the vegetative

Crop Growth Rate and Seeds per Unit Area in Soybean

Crop Science, 1991
The number of seeds per unit area is an important yield component in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.]; however, the mechanisms responsible for the regulation of this yield component are not well understood. Field experiments were conducted at Lexington, KY (3 yr), and at Taian, China (1 yr), to investigate the relationship between net canopy ...

Rate of Uptake of Potassium by Three Crop Species in Relation to Growth

Journal of Experimental Botany, 1978
Barley, ryegrass, and fodder radish were grown in flowing nutrient solutions at four potassium concentrations, [K+], from 0-05 to 4 mg l-1. During the first 2 weeks after germination the response to [K+] (fodder radish > barley > ryegrass) depended on the potential relative growth rate, the ratio of root surface area to plant weight, and on the K+ flux
