Effect of flood and drip irrigation and difference of previous crop residue input on morphological and physiological traits in rice root

open access: yesPlant Production Science, 2023
Detailed information on the root system under drip irrigation will help in more efficient irrigation scheduling. Although input of previous crop residues is effective in increasing soil fertility, little is known about its effect on the root system. This

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Environmental and Health Impacts of Crop Residue Burning: Scope of Sustainable Crop Residue Management Practices

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2022
The burning of crop residue in the open field has become a significant concern for climate change mitigation efforts worldwide. This practice has led to air quality impairment, smog, haze, heat waves, and different health problems. These could be avoided by adopting sustainable crop residue management practices (SCRMPs) and enabling farmers to engage ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

A systematic representation of crop rotations. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Crop rotations are allocations by growers of crop types to specific fields through time. This paper aims at presenting (i) a systematic and rigorous mathematical representation of crops rotations; and (ii) a concise mathematical framework to model ...

Generating cost price for crop residues [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Central European Agriculture, 2019
Considering growing interest and potential for biomass energy production as an alternative to imported oil and as a mode of reducing environment pollution, there is a demand for calculating the economic justification of using crop residues for increasing

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Producing gas from crop residues

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1980
A pilot model downdraft gasifier demonstrated the feasibility of using crop and wood residues to produce low-Btu gas.

Mineralisation of catch crop residues and N transfer to the subsequent crop

open access: yesScience of The Total Environment, 2022
Catch crops (CC) are widely used to reduce nitrogen leaching from arable cropping systems. However, the mineralisation rate of different catch crop species, and the fate of the mineralised N remain unclear. In this study, we performed an analysis, based on N mineralisation incubation experiments, to test and parameterise a simple mineralisation model ...

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...
