Flower heterochrony and crop yield

Trends in Plant Science, 2023
Crop improvement has focused on enhancing yield, nutrient content, harvestability, and stress resistance using a trait-centered reductionist approach. This has downplayed the fact that plants are developmentally integrated and respond coordinately and predictably to genetic and environmental variation, with potential consequences for food production ...

Salinity and crop yield

Plant Biology, 2018
AbstractThirty crop species provide 90% of our food, most of which display severe yield losses under moderate salinity. Securing and augmenting agricultural yield in times of global warming and population increase is urgent and should, aside from ameliorating saline soils, include attempts to increase crop plant salt tolerance.

Crop growth and yield.

2018
Abstract This chapter focuses on the various processes that determine the growth and yield of tomatoes, with emphasis on the influence of environmental factors and crop management, such as light, carbon dioxide, temperature, humidity, salinity, plant density and leaf and fruit pruning.

Crop growth and yield.

2005
AbstractThe processes that determine tomato crop growth and yield are considered in detail, with emphasis on the influence of environmental factors such as light, CO2, temperature, humidity and salinity. The main topics are as follows: Biomass production (leaf area and light interception, leaf and crop photosynthesis); Crop and fruit growth; Biomass ...

Geography of crop yield skewness

Agricultural Economics, 2015
AbstractAnalysis of crop yield distributions provides insights into better understanding how natural resources shape agricultural productivity. This study seeks to provide a rigorous theoretical and empirical understanding of the effects of exogenous geographic and climatic factors on the first three moments of crop yields with focus on the third ...

Ozone And Crop Yield

Annual Review of Phytopathology, 1989
Ozone (03) in the atmosphere plays a dual role in its effects on the earth's environment. In the stratosphere, it performs a critical task of absorbing some of the sun's ultraviolet radiation. Paradoxically, 03 in the troposphere is a component of photochemical air pollution and causes more damage to vegeta tion than all other pollutants combined.

Crop Yield and Democracy

Land Economics, 2020
How does the historical legacy of agriculture affect democratic traditions in contemporary societies? This paper provides empirical evidence that inherent crop yield and democracy exhibit an inverted U-shaped relationship. This finding is supported by cross-country data from up to 147 countries, 186 pre-colonial societies, and the U.S. states.

Does Crop Insurance Affect Crop Yields?

2007
We use administrative data from the Federal crop insurance program to examine how yield distributions change as farmers cycle into and out of the program. We are able to do this by linking many years of crop insurance data by individual farm conditioning observed yields on the particular county and year in which they are observed.
