Optimum Area Yield Crop Insurance
American Journal of Agricultural Economics, 1999AbstractThis article considers the problem of the optimal design of crop insurance when the indemnity is based upon the aggregate yield of a surrounding area. The optimal area yield crop insurance contract depends on the individual beta coefficient which measures the sensitivity of farm yield to area yield.

AreaâYield Crop Insurance Reconsidered
American Journal of Agricultural Economics, 1991AbstractOne of the more promising proposals for reforming the federal crop insurance program calls for both premium rates and indemnities to be based not on the producer's individual yield but rather on the aggregate yield of a surrounding area.

Plant Genetics: Increasing Crop Yield
Science, 1977Cell cultures of crop plants provide new opportunities to recover induced mutations likely to increase crop yield. Approaches include regulating respiration to conserve carbon fixed by photosynthesis, and increasing the nutritive value of seed protein. They depend on devising selecting conditions which only desired mutant cells can survive.

Maximizing crop yield in alley crops
Agroforestry Systems, 1998A simple graphical model is presented illustrating the balance between facilitation and competition necessary for maximizing crop yield in alley cropping systems. Three functions are composed into the decision function: (1) the percent increase in crop yield from facilitation resulting from prunings, (2) the amount of prunings resulting from different ...

Tropical Agriculture: Crop Diversity and Crop Yields
Economic Geography, 1977Agricultural land use in the tropics is characterized by marked regional contrast, diversity of crops, and less acreage in cereal crops but more in legumes than in the temperate zone.

This paper shows how spectral analysis can be used to determine the cyclical nature of crop yields. The number and length of cycles are estimated for corn and wheat in the Corn Helt and the Northern Plains. Several cycles appear to be superimposed over the trend yield.
