Model experiments on the influence of tunnel hood cross-sectional area on the reduction of the pressure gradient of the compression wavefront in high-speed railways

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2023
Micro-pressure wave emission from tunnel portals in high-speed railways causes environmental issues. Tunnel hoods installed in the tunnel portals reduce the micro-pressure wave emission by reducing the pressure gradient of the compression wavefront ...

Microfluidic synthesis of composite cross‐gradient materials for investigating cell–biomaterial interactions [PDF]

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, 2010
AbstractCombinatorial material synthesis is a powerful approach for creating composite material libraries for the high‐throughput screening of cell–material interactions. Although current combinatorial screening platforms have been tremendously successful in identifying target (termed “hit”) materials from composite material libraries, new material ...

Approximating the Gradient of Cross-Entropy Loss Function

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
A loss function has two crucial roles in training a conventional discriminant deep neural network (DNN): (i) it measures the goodness of classification and (ii) generates the gradients that drive the training of the network. In this paper, we approximate

The educational gradient in young singlehood: The role of gender and the gender climate

open access: yesDemographic Research, 2023
Background: Universities are described as "waiting halls" for union formation. However, little is known about the size of the educational gradient in single living after leaving home.

Interpretation of airborne gravity gradiometry and magnetic data using cross-gradients [PDF]

open access: yesASEG Extended Abstracts, 2012
SUMMARY Computing the cross-gradient product of airborne vertical gravity and magnetic intensity data provides a means to combine information about two different physical properties into the same image, thereby aiding interpretation. The method utilises the angle and cross-product values between the horizontal gradients of each dataset to produce two ...

Multiple cross‐gradient joint inversion for geospectral imaging [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2007
Accurate characterization and monitoring of complex subsurface environments require the integration of all the available geophysical, geochemical and geological information. I developed a generalized cross‐gradient procedure that seeks multiple geometrically similar images that simplify the integration of cross‐property subsurface information.

In-Plane Instability of Parabolic Arches under Uniformly Distributed Vertical Load Coupled with Temperature Gradient Field

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2022
In civil engineering, arches, such as steel arch roofs and arch bridges, are often subjected to linear temperature gradient field. It is known that the in-plane instability of parabolic arches is caused by the significant axial force.

The Framework of Cross-Domain and Model Adversarial Attack against Deepfake

open access: yesFuture Internet, 2022
To protect images from the tampering of deepfake, adversarial examples can be made to replace the original images by distorting the output of the deepfake model and disrupting its work.

Generalizing Across Domains via Cross-Gradient Training

open access: yes, 2018
We present CROSSGRAD, a method to use multi-domain training data to learn a classifier that generalizes to new domains. CROSSGRAD does not need an adaptation phase via labeled or unlabeled data, or domain features in the new domain. Most existing domain adaptation methods attempt to erase domain signals using techniques like domain adversarial training.
