Highly Cross-Linked Polyethylene Bearing
2021Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is the most useful treatment in symptomatic patients with late-stage osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). Unique features of ONFH such as altered bone remodeling and high prevalence of younger patients may compromise the outcome after THA.

Gel content determination in cross-linked polyethylene
Biomaterials, 1989Gel content is the dominating parameter which affects properties and prescribes the behaviour of a given type of cross-linked polyethylene. Researchers have determined the gel content by several methods based on solvent extraction, a process which dissolves the linear thermoplastic polymer but swells only the cross-linked fraction.

Experimental Evaluation of Properties of Cross-Linked Polyethylene
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2003This article describes several aspects of the production of cross-linked polyethylene. Advantages and disadvantages of chemical, or electron beam irradiation, cross-linking processes are discussed. The material under test is thermoshrinking low density polyethylene, produced at the Megarad s.r.l. (Cassino, Italy) firm.

Thermal aging of cross-linked polyethylene

The Morphology of Cross-Linked Polyethylene Insulation
IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation, 1978Cross-linked polyethylene, now commonly used for insulation of underground electric distribution cables, is susceptible to electrochemical treeing, in common with other polymeric dielectrics. This treeing phenomenon sometimes originates at holes or cavities present in the cable.

Surface properties of cross-linked polyethylene
1998 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (Cat. No.98CH36257), 2002This study reports on the loss of hydrophobicity of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. Specimens of steam cured XLPE cut from a nominal 28 kV/sub rms/ cable were immersed in saline solutions of varying conductivities from 5 to 10/sup 5/ /spl mu/S/cm over a wide range of temperatures from 0 to 98/spl deg/C.

Cross-Linked Polyethylene for Higher Voltages
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1967The rapid evolution of cross-linked polyethylene for high-voltage cable applications and the factors which promoted this development are discussed in relation to the growing demand for solid-dielectric constructions. Advances in cable design and technology are outlined for this thermally-stable insulation, highlighting the technical advantages of ...

Kinetics of solidification of cross-linked polyethylene
Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1982, 1982In the production of extruded dielectric cables the molten polymer is invariably quenched following extrusion. During this process crystallization of the polymer occurs at a series of different temperatures depending on the thermal conductivity of the polymer in question.

Study on Cross-Linking Degree of Polyethylene
Advanced Materials Research, 2013In this paper, the linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) was melted and cross-linked by dicumyl peroxide (DCP) used to prepare cross-linked polyethylene (XPE). The gel content was determined by extraction method. The effect of content of cross-linker, cross- linked time, cross-linked temperature and other factors on the gel content were studied.

Highly Cross-Linked Polyethylenes
2011Osteolysis after total joint replacement using ultra-high molecular weight Polyethylene bearing components has been shown to be a major factor for the long-term failure of such components. Highly cross-linked polyethylene has already been introduced in the late 1970s and demonstrated to have superior wear resistance compared to non-irradiated and ...
