3D Physical Modeling of an Artificial Beach Nourishment: Laboratory Procedures and Nourishment Performance

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
Beach nourishment represents a type of coastal defense intervention, keeping the beach as a natural coastal defense system. Altering the cross-shore profile geometry, due to the introduction of new sediments, induces a non-equilibrium situation regarding

Sediment transport by runoff on debris-mantled dryland hillslopes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Hillslopes supply sediment to river channels, and therefore impact drainage basin functioning and evolution. The relationship between hillslope attributes and sediment flux forms the basis of geomorphic transport laws used to model the long-term ...

Cross-Shore Profile Evolution after an Extreme Erosion Event—Palanga, Lithuania

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
We report cross-shore profile evolution at Palanga, eastern Baltic Sea, where short period waves dominate. Cross-shore profile studies began directly after a significant coastal erosion event caused by storm “Anatol”, in December of 1999, and continued ...

Lateral sediment sources and knickzones as controls on spatio-temporal variations of sediment transport in an Alpine river [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Modern mixed alluvial-bedrock channels in mountainous areas provide natural laboratories for understanding the time scales at which coarse-grained material has been entrained and transported from their sources to the adjacent sedimentary sink, where ...

Method of littoral sediment transport estimation in sand beach

open access: yesRevista Cubana de Ingeniería, 2010
Today, beaches are in a critical situation due to erosion. These places are very significant for the economy and tourism. For this reason is important to know the rate of sediment transport and the behavior of it. This work proposes   a methodology based

Modelling Cross-Shore Shoreline Change on Multiple Timescales and Their Interactions

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
In this paper, a new approach to model wave-driven, cross-shore shoreline change incorporating multiple timescales is introduced. As a base, we use the equilibrium shoreline prediction model ShoreFor that accounts for a single timescale only.

Uncovering the mechanisms of cross-shore sediment transport through interpretable machine learning with limited laboratory data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Sediment Research
Cross-shore sediment transport, a key driver of coastal morphodynamic evolution, remains challenging to model due to the simultaneous contributions of multiple factors, which collectively result in a highly nonlinear dynamic.

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Application of the XBeach-Gravel Model for the Case of East Adriatic Sea-Wave Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
Croatia’s coast located on the eastern Adriatic is rich with small gravel beaches with limited fetch. This leads to a specific low-energetic wave climate compared to most other beaches, while their gravel composition makes them unique. Most management of

Hopping‐Mediated Zero‐Bias Photocharge Retention in Solution‐Processed Van Der Waals Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid–liquid interface assembly enables the fabrication of solution‐processed MoS2 and WSe2 centimeter‐scale, nanometer‐thick type‐II heterostructures on paper. Interfacial charge separation and hopping‐limited recombination produce rectification and persistent photocharge retention at zero bias.
