Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

Emerging experimental and computational methods for studying redox‐regulated structural transitions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Redox reactions can reshape proteins and alter how they behave in cells, with important consequences for health and disease. This review explores emerging experimental and computational approaches for discovering these redox‐sensitive protein switches, revealing their structural effects, and predicting their behavior, opening new opportunities to ...

Cross-spectral Gender Classification Using Multi-spectral Face Imaging

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2021
Abstract Soft biometrics has been gaining significant attention in biometrics literature for usage in recognition system. Gender classification is one such soft biometric traits that has been studied extensively using visible spectrum range and limited studies beyond visible spectrum.

Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

An ultra-small nine-color spectrometer with a two-layer biparted ten-dichroic-mirror array and an image sensor

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
An ultra-small (54 × 58 × 8.5 mm) and large aperture (1 × 7 mm) nine-color spectrometer—using an array of ten dichroic mirrors “biparted” as two layers—was developed and used for snapshot spectral imaging. Incident-light flux with a cross section smaller

Mapping Particle Size and Soil Organic Matter in Tropical Soil Based on Hyperspectral Imaging and Non-Imaging Sensors

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
We evaluated the use of airborne hyperspectral imaging and non-imaging sensors in the Vis—NIR—SWIR spectral region to assess particle size and soil organic matter in the surface layer of tropical soils (Oxisols, Ultisols, Entisols).

Invisible but not inaccessible—Revealing transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins with solution NMR and complementary methods

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Transient oligomers formed by intrinsically disordered proteins may be ‘invisible’ to direct detection yet remain accessible to solution NMR through equilibrium‐exchange measurements and pressure‐jump experiments. Complementary methods report on mass, stoichiometry, selected distance distributions, morphology, and internal packing.

SS3L: Self-Supervised Spectral–Spatial Subspace Learning for Hyperspectral Image Denoising

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) systems often suffer from complex noise degradation during the imaging process, significantly impacting downstream applications.
