Astrocyte Enrichment of 3D Cortical Constructs Enhances Brain Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study highlights the role of astrocytes in supporting neural progenitor cell survival and differentiation after traumatic brain injury. Astrocytes enhanced neuronal differentiation, improved cell survival in co‐cultures, and promoted integration of microfluidics‐based implants with host tissue following implantation. Additionally, increased axonal

Early Radiation Therapy Response Assessment Using Multi‐Scale Photoacoustic Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tomographic and mesoscopic photoacoustics capture intratumoural features of radioresistance and response. ABSTRACT There is a critical unmet clinical need to identify biomarkers that predict and detect radiation therapy (RT) response in cancer. Using the unique capabilities of multi‐scale photoacoustic imaging (PAI) to depict tumor oxygenation and ...

Emissions of ammonia and methane from a livestock building natural cross ventilation

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 2011
Agriculture, especially animal husbandry, is a major source of the greenhouse gas methane as well as the gas ammonia. In order to develop reduction measures for emissions and immissions, two factors prove to be: firstly, to determine the emission mass ...

Stochastic Nanoscale Biophysical Cues as a Basis for the Induction of Glioblastoma‐Like Transcriptional Programs in Astrocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stochastic nanoscale physical cues induce glioblastoma (GBM)‐associated transcriptional traits in naïve astrocytes leading to spontaneous formation of spheroids. Cells within spheroids express activated‐MMP2 and a differential gene expression pattern involving P53 and NOTCH3, providing evidence for a role for changes in brain topography, as observed in

THE EFFECTS OF BALCONIES ON THE NATURAL VENTILATION PERFORMANCE OF CROSS-VENTILATED HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS

open access: yesJournal of Green Building, 2014
ABSTRACT Natural ventilation performance can be influenced by various factors, including facade treatments such as balconies. Balconies have been commonly incorporated into residential buildings for various purposes, yet the provision of a balcony as a passive design strategy to improve natural ventilation is not one of its common purposes. The

Temporal and Cell‐Specific Regulation of Synaptic Homeostasis by the Chromatin Remodeler Chd1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chd1, the Drosophila homologue of mammalian CHD2 ‐ a gene linked to autism, epilepsy, and intellectual disability, is required for synaptic homeostatic plasticity. Chd1 in glia is necessary for the rapid induction of synaptic homeostasis, whereas Chd1 in motoneurons, muscle, and glia is critical for long‐term maintenance.

Redefining Dendritic Cell Vaccines: Synergistically Co‐priming DC and B Cells With Nanoparticles Loading Whole Cell Antigens Maximizes the Efficacy of DC Vaccines

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dendritic cells (DC) vaccine is an important type of vaccines. However, the limited efficacy of DC vaccines hinders their widely application. This study redefines DC vaccines and provides a new DC‐BC vaccine that have much better therapeutic efficacy.

The Mitochondrial Guardian α‐Amyrin Mitigates Alzheimer's Disease Pathology via Modulation of the DLK‐SARM1‐ULK1 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dietary habits play a key role in chronic diseases, and higher annual consumption of fruit and vegetable may lower risk of dementia. Artificial intelligence predicts the lipid‐like compound α‐Amyrin (αA) from plants with edible peels as a drug candidate against Alzheimer's disease.
