Additive genetic variance and covariance between relatives in wheat crosses with variable parental ploidy levels

open access: yes, 2020
Synthetic hexaploid wheat was developed and used in breeding to introduce new genetic diversity into bread wheat, through interspecific hybridization of T. tauschii (diploid) and durum wheat T.

Identification of promising wheat genotypes for crossing

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2011
The objective of this study was to identify promising wheat genotypes from the IAPAR breeding program for crosses by multivariate techniques. Measures of dissimilarity between genotypes were obtained from multicategoric variables.

Blood‐based proteomic profiling reveals context‐dependent changes in BCL2‐associated signaling during taxane therapy in breast cancer patients

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Genetic parameters for egg production traits in crosses between local and exotic chickens estimated by Bayesian inference

open access: yes, 2020
Estimates of genetic parameters for economic traits are important to enable the breeder estimate the breeding value of individuals available for selection.

MICROSATELLITE DIVERSITY OF CROSSBRED HORSES RAISED IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

open access: yesGenetics & Applications, 2017
The focus of this study was microsatellite diversity of crossbred horses raised in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Genomic DNA was extracted from blood samples of 20 individuals (KBA group – 7 individuals, crosses between Bosnian and Herzegovinian mountain ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

The efficiency of selection in the early generations of a potato breeding programme

open access: yes, 2015
The efficiency of selection in the early generations of a potato breeding programme is examined. A number of unselected potato (Solanum tuberosum L) clones were grown in a glasshouse, from true botanical seed, and thereafter in the field at two ...
