Degradation Pathways in Lithium‐Ion Batteries with Ethylene Carbonate‐Free Electrolytes
The choice of electrolyte solvent can significantly affect the oxygen loss at the Ni‐rich cathode surface. EC‐free electrolyte is found to suppress lattice oxygen release and reduce surface layer formation at NMC, resulting in improved capacity retention compared to conventional EC containing electrolytes. Abstract The development of stable electrolyte

Enriching Surface‐Accessible CO2 in the Zero‐Gap Anion‐Exchange‐Membrane‐Based CO2 Electrolyzer
A descriptor called the surface‐accessible CO2 concentration ([CO2]SA) is developed, which enables to indicate the transient state of the local [CO2]/[OH−] ratio and helps define the limits of CO2‐to‐CO conversion. Three general tactics are developed to enrich [CO2]SA for high current electrolysis: (1) increasing the catalyst layer thickness, (2 ...

Enhancing Cycle Life in Superoxide‐Based Na–O2 Batteries by Reducing Interface Reactivity
A new sodium–oxygen (Na–O2) battery is designed with highly active vanadium phosphide (VP) nanoparticles as a catalyst, an ether/ionic liquid‐based electrolyte, and an effective sodium bromide (NaBr) anode protection layer. This designed Na–O2 cell that produces NaO2 is able to reduce the interfacial reactivity between cell materials and the product to

A high‐resolution image‐based multiphase and multi‐physics modelling framework is developed to decouple structural changes in the membrane electrode assemblies of high‐temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells. These changes are then digitally combined to show how morphological defects such as membrane pores, catalyst cracks, and phase migration ...

Intensification of Alkaline Electrolyzer with Improved Two‑Phase Flow
Porous nickel‐type electrodes with low tortuosity are fabricated and their role in reducing the capillary pressure, bubble point, and ohmic resistance, which led to lower energy loss and higher current densities and efficiencies is investigated. The cell delivers a current density of 2 A cm−2 at ≈2 V.
