A Plume Tracking Algorithm Based on Crosswind Formations [PDF]
We introduce a plume tracking algorithm based on robot formations. The algorithm is inherently designed for multi-robot systems, and requires at least two robots to collaborate. The robots try to keep themselves centered around the plume while moving upwind towards the source, and share their odor concentration and wind direction measurements with each

Wind, waves, wing loading and the flight energetics of giant petrels
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Wind is a major factor driving seabird movement and energetics, the effects of which are modulated by morphology. Developments in tagging technology now make it possible to test predictions from aerodynamic theory about the effects of wind on flight performance in free ...

Eddy Covariance Theory: A Review
Eddy covariance is often applied using a single tower to measure net ecosystem exchanges of gases and heat‐in other words, to infer the integrated source/sink strengths. ABSTRACT Eddy covariance (EC), the gold standard for measuring ecosystem scale gas and heat exchanges, has transformed our understanding of the breathing of the biosphere, and thus ...

Study of Paired Approach Wake Separation Based on Crosswinds
The effect of crosswinds on paired approach (PA) procedures for Closely Spaced Parallel Runways (CSPR) is investigated in this paper by fully utilizing the crosswind environment to implement a more efficient PA and increase runway capacity.

Numerical investigation on the crosswind effects on a train running on a bridge
With the increase of the running speed of the high-speed train (HST), aerodynamic interference between the HST and surrounding structures becomes more and more important. Traditional wind tunnel experiments using the stationary model can not fully reveal

Abstract The observations from GRACE‐FO and DMSP satellites are utilized to analyze the ion‐neutral interaction near dusk during the 10–12 May 2024 super‐storm. The horizontal plasma convection dragged the anti‐sunward wind in the polar cap and sunward winds around the auroral and subauroral regions during whole storm times.

High‐Speed Altitude Regulation With Neuromorphic Camera and Lightweight Embedded Computation
Neuromorphic cameras deliver rapid, high‐dynamic‐range sensing but overwhelm embedded processors at high speeds. This work presents a lightweight, optimized Lucas–Kanade optical flow method with parallelization, gyroscopic derotation, and adaptive event slicing.
