Detecting high indoor crowd density with Wi-Fi localization: a statistical mechanics approach
We address the problem of detecting highly raised crowd density in situations such as indoor dance events. We propose a new method for estimating crowd density by anonymous, non-participatory, indoor Wi-Fi localization of smart phones.

Curvature‐Tuned Friction at Electrified Ionic Liquid Interfaces
Graphene curvature plays a key role in friction electrotunability at single‐asperity contacts lubricated by ionic liquids. A 9 nm radius yields stronger tunability than larger radii, with distinct friction coefficients at low and high loads indicating a shift in the slippage plane.

Structural and Chemical Engineering of Sub‐Nanochannel Membranes Toward Ion Selectivity
This review summarizes recent advances in structural and chemical engineering of sub‐nanochannels for ion selectivity. We first introduce fundamental ion transport mechanisms within sub‐nanochannels, followed by strategies to tune pore size, geometry, and surface functionalities, categorized into charge‐based, ion‐recognition, hydrophilic bonding, and ...

L2HCount:Generalizing Crowd Counting from Low to High Crowd Density via Density Simulation
Since COVID-19, crowd-counting tasks have gained wide applications. While supervised methods are reliable, annotation is more challenging in high-density scenes due to small head sizes and severe occlusion, whereas it's simpler in low-density scenes. Interestingly, can we train the model in low-density scenes and generalize it to high-density scenes ...

Extracting Crowd Velocities at High Density
Velocity is a fundamental property of foot traffic flow. Monitoring the change of velocity patterns at high pedestrian densities may provide valuable insights on foot traffic dynamics. In this paper, a closer look is taken to explore the capability of the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique on extracting crowd velocities from surveillance camera

Inspired by natural silicified wood, a biomimetic mineralized chitin‐derived aerogel is constructed. It can withstand 81 000 times its own weight, and its backside temperature is 130.4°C after exposure to ∼1300°C butane flame for 600 s, exhibiting high‐strength, fire‐resistance, and super thermal‐insulation properties.

When hydrated zinc ions are deposited onto Cu substrates at practical current densities, the modified Cu enables simultaneously compact zinc growth and suppressed hydrogen evolution. This regulatory effect originates from the superior adsorption of the modified Cu interface, which enhances zincophilicity and the hydrogen desorption barrier, thereby ...
