Trends in Biotechnology, 1986Abstract Crown gall is caused by the bacterium Agrobacterium tumefaciens . Non-pathogenic isolates of this species which produce pathogen-specific toxins, called agrocins, have been used successfully as biological control agents on a variety of plants.
