Effect of zinc addition on fuel crud deposition in simulated PWR primary coolant conditions

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2020
Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of zinc addition to the simulated primary coolant of a PWR on fuel crud deposition behavior. Crud deposition tests were performed in recirculating hydrogenated water containing 2 ppm Li and 1000 ppm B at three different zinc concentrations (0, 20, and 100 ppb) at 325 °C and 120 bar. Crud

Hydrodynamic cavitation characteristics of an orifice system and its effects on CRUD-like SiC deposition

open access: yesAnnals of Nuclear Energy, 2016
Abstract In a nuclear power plant, chalk river unidentified deposit (CRUD) is known as a deposit that is composed of corrosion and oxidation materials. It has a porous structure, which combines with boron that is injected into the coolant for controlling power levels.

Crud Deposition on Heat Transfer Surface

CORROSION 1978, 1978
Radiation exposure for the personnel of nuclear power station is recently increasing. Radioactive corrosion product is a major source of raising up the radiation rate in the reactor coolant system. The reduction or control of radioactive material accumulation is an important problem in radiation management of nuclear power station.

Multiphysics modeling of porous CRUD deposits in nuclear reactors

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2013
Abstract The formation of porous CRUD deposits on nuclear reactor fuel rods, a longstanding problem in the operation of pressurized water reactors (PWRs), is a significant challenge to science-based multiscale modeling and simulation. While existing, published studies have focused on individual or loosely coupled processes, such as heat transfer ...

Deposition of Model Crud on Boiling Zircaloy Surfaces at High Temperature

Nuclear Technology, 1983
The deposition experiments were carried out under high pressure (7 MPa) at 285/sup 0/C using model compounds (..cap alpha..-hematite) to investigate the deposition process of crud on boiling surfaces. The effects of several factors, such as the diameter of the model particles (0.15 to 2.3 ..mu..m), pH (7 to 13), and heat flux of the heated surfaces (5 ...

A model of chemistry and thermal hydraulics in PWR fuel crud deposits

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2006
Abstract A model is described for simulating thermal hydraulic and chemical conditions within fuel crud deposits. Heat transfer takes place by wick boiling in which water flows through the porous deposit and evaporates into steam at the surface of chimneys. The transport and chemistry of dissolved species within the deposit is also modelled.

Role of Surface Chemistry in Crud Deposition on Heat Transfer Surface

Corrosion, 1979
Crud deposition on fuel cladding in light water reactors is the source of induced radioactivity which contaminates the reactor coolant system when released. The deposition behavior of hematite particles (crud) on heat transfer surfaces was studied experimentally at atmospheric pressure.
