Nanodiamonds as Bioactive Platforms to Modulate Microbial, Mammalian, and Vertebrate Systems

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Nanodiamonds (NDs) are biocompatible and antibacterial nanomaterials that support mammalian cell growth while inhibiting bacterial pathogens. NDs showed strong antibacterial activity, with Escherichia coli being more sensitive than Staphylococcus aureus. At 10 mg/mL, both bacteria exhibited ~8% viability.

Synergetic hydrothermal co-liquefaction of crude glycerol and aspen wood

open access: yes, 2015
Crude glycerol-assisted hydrothermal co-liquefaction of aspen wood was studied in batch micro-reactors. An experimental matrix of 14 experiments was defined to investigate the effects of three different process parameters on the yields of biocrude and ...

Growth and Performance of Nursery Pigs Fed Crude Glycerol

open access: yes, 2007
The growth and performance of 96 nursery pigs fed crude glycerol was evaluated in a 33 d trial. Pigs were weaned at 21 d of age and had an average start weight of 7.9±1.2 kg (17.4±2.6 lb).

Characterization of crude glycerol from biodiesel production from multiple feedstocks

open access: yes, 2006
. Glycerol is the principal by-product of biodiesel production. For each gallon of biodiesel produced, approximately 0.3 kg of crude glycerol accompanies. Such crude glycerol possesses very low value because of the impurities contained. As the demand and

Growth Performance of Growing Pigs Fed Crude Glycerol-Supplemented Diets

open access: yes, 2008
Growth performance of growing pigs fed crude glycerol was determined in a 138-d feeding trial. Crude glycerol utilized in the trial contained 84.51% glycerol, 11.95% water, 2.91% sodium chloride, and 0.32% methanol.

1,3-Propanediol from Crude Glycerol

open access: yes, 2014
As a result of the rapid increase in biodiesel production, there is excess supply of crude glycerol, a byproduct of the transesterification process. Prices are depressed and expected to remain low for the foreseeable future, making it a very good time to

Use of crude glycerol for biogas production

open access: yes, 2016
