Thermodynamic Controls on the Competition Between CO2 Solute Transport and Retention in Fracture‐Pore Media: Insights From Real‐Basalt Microfluidics

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract Reactive‐surface exposure during basalt carbonation is controlled by the entry and retention of fracture‐transported CO2 solute within adjacent pores, yet these pore‐scale processes remain poorly constrained under reservoir temperature and pressure.

An Embodied Paper‐Based Microfluidic Al‐Air Battery for Enduring Untethered Insect‐Scale Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 45, 13 August 2026.
This work presents a centimeter‐scale microfluidic aluminum–air battery (MFAAB) with dual‐surface anode and F−‐mediated byproduct decomposition. The design enables a high capacity of 2697.05 mAh/g Al and delivers tens of milliwatts to power LEDs, motors, and a toy car.

Overcoming Interfacial Hurdles in Solid‐State Aluminum Batteries for Safe and Energy‐Dense Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 45, 13 August 2026.
Solid‐state aluminum batteries (SSABs) promise high energy density and intrinsic safety but face severe solid–solid interfacial challenges. This review reveals the three core hurdles—anode passivation, cathode contact loss, and electrolyte grain boundary resistance and discusses strategies including artificial interphases, alloying, and composite ...

Non‐Enzymatic Browning Under Emerging Cooking Technologies: Matrix‐Dependent Pathways, Neoformed Compounds, and Nutritional–Toxicological Trade‐Offs

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 4, August 2026.
Non‐enzymatic browning in foods is a dynamic reaction network integrating Maillard chemistry, caramelization, lipid oxidation, and ascorbic acid degradation. Processing technologies and matrix factors govern pathways, balancing desirable sensory attributes with harmful compounds.

Winter Natural Evaporation Experiment of Deep Brine With Sand‐Gravel Pores in Da Lang Tan

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2026.
The deep sand gravel type pore brine in Qaidam Basin belongs to unsaturated chloride type brine with high calcium, high sodium and low potassium. A total of 600 kg of graveltypepore brine at 1000–2000 m underground in Dalangtan mining area, was selected for the test, and evaporated and crysta‐llized in the natural state in summer.
