Investigation of cryogenic treatment of UHMWPE

Proceedings of the 1997 16 Southern Biomedical Engineering Conference, 2002
UHMWPE has been used as a bearing material in total joint arthroplasty for many years. Wear of UHMWPE can adversely affect the performance and longevity of orthopaedic implants. Various efforts have been focused on the improvement of UHMWPE properties, including wear resistance.

Cryogenic Treatment of Metal Parts

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2006
Cryogenic treatment and its variables have been described. Results of eight engineering tests carried out on cryotreated parts have been presented. Cryogenic treatment of metal parts enhances useful properties which in turn, improves various strengths. Our tests viz.

Deep cryogenic treatment of tool steels

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2016
The aim of our research work was to investigate the effect of deep cryogenic treatment on fracture toughness, wear resistance and load-carrying capacity of cold work tool steel and to determine the effectiveness of deep cryogenic treatment depending on the tool steel type and chemical composition.

Cryogenic Treatment of Metal – A Review

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2018
Abstract Cryogenic Treatment is the subzero process, carried out directly after quenching and proceeded by successive tempering. In cryogenic treatment materials are treated at -196°C for a soaking period of 24 hours. It has shown significant changes in the microstructure and mechanical properties of materials.

The effect of cryogenic treatment on tapping

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2012
This study was realized with two different types (flat and thread rolled) of coated (TiAlN), uncoated, and cryogenically treated taps (uncoated). The tapping processes were carried at four different cutting speeds (2, 3, 4, and 5 m/min) and 1.25 mm/rev feed rate under dry and wet cutting conditions on the Ti-6Al-4 V alloy.

Deep-cryogenic treatment of ZnO nanowires

Materials Letters, 2013
Abstract Deep-cryogenic treatment was performed on vertically aligned ZnO nanowires produced by metal organic chemical vapour deposition. The mechanical response of the nanowires was detected by nanoindentation tests. It was found that Young's modulus, the critical buckling stress and strain of individual nanowires is not significantly influenced by ...

Cryogenic Non Destructive Testing (NDT) and Material Treatment Cryogenic Transition Detection

Heat Treating Conference, 2013
Abstract The ability to identify and quantify changes in the microstructure of metal alloys is valuable in determining fatigue life and dependability of metal cutting, shaping, and heat treated materials used in manufacturing applications.

[Cryogenic treatment of rectal tumors].

Minerva medica, 1983
10 patients with anal or rectal cancers were given liquid nitrogen cryogenic treatment. In 5 cases the treatment was given prior to abdominoperineal amputation of the rectum. The remaining 5 inoperable cases were given the cryogenic treatment alone, followed, in 3 cases by derivative colostomy.

Cryogenic treatment of case hardened steel

International Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering, 2010
AbstractThe case for cold treating tools is clear-cut, but carburised components such as gears may not always benefit from cold treatment. The consequent reduction of retained austenite in high carbon carburised cases affects several properties of the component. Whether that change in properties is beneficial depends very much on the intended operating

Improvement of Carbon Nanotubes using Cryogenic Treatment

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2007
Functional improvement of single-walled carbon nanotubes coated on polyimide Kapton HN was studied by means of cyclic cryogenic treatment. Immersing in liquid nitrogen at 77 K joining in heat annealing at 500 K induced the increase of D–G ratio and electrical conductivity in conjecture to the partial remedial junction with the coexisted stiction on ...
