A large number of disease states are characterized by cryoglobulinemia. Quantification and immunochemical classification of cryoglobulins in serum provide information of diagnostic and pathophysiologic utility. Thus, type I cryoglobulins consist of a monoclonal immunoglobulin of a single class and are associated with lymphoproliferative disorders, such

Cryoglobulinemia and Fibronectin
Acta Haematologica, 2009Isolated and washed cryoglobulins obtained from 30 patients with different diseases were studied for the presence of fibronectin by immunoelectrophoresis. Two of the isolated cryoglobulins were of the type I, 3 were of the type II, while the other 25 were of type III. Despite extensive washing, fibronectin was detected in all the cryoprecipitates.

We present a histopathological study of a 44-year-old female with essential cryoglobulinemia. She had suffered from purpura and ulcer in winter, bilateral tinnitus and progressive hearing loss. An audiogram taken a week before her death showed bilateral total deafness.

1. Treatment of symptomatic cryoglobulinemia is exceedingly challenging due to the multisystemic nature of its presentation, the variability of its course, and the paucity of effective therapeutic options supported by randomized controlled clinical trials. 2. Patients with mild, relatively asymptomatic disease should be observed without introduction of

Mixed cryoglobulinemia (MC) includes:MC type II, composed by polyclonal IgGmonoclonal IgM, and MC type III, composed by polyclonal IgG-polyclonal IgM immune-complexes. MC may be secondary to various immunological, hematological, and infectiousd iseases, or it can represent a distinct disorder, the ‘essential’ MC.

Cryoglobulinemia was initially noted to occur predominantly in patients with myeloma, but it is now being detected in a growing number of infectious, collagen-vascular, and lymphoproliferative disorders. Two patients with leg ulcers due to cryoglobulinemia are presented.

Cryoglobulinaemias contain seric immunoglobulins which precipitate at low temperatures in some tissues. Based on immunohistochemical analysis of their components (monoclonal or polyclonal), 3 types of cryoglobulinaemias have been identified, and a classification has been proposed. The presence of a paraprotein within the cryoglobulinaemia is due to the

Circulating cryoglobulins have been reported in association with several acute and chronic viral diseases. In all of the reported cases, the viruses involved have been hepatotropic, lymphocytotropic or both. Among the hypotheses concerning the causes of cryoglobulinemia, two possible pathways have been more frequently debated: an impairment of the ...
