A New Understanding of the Poyang Lake‐Yangtze River Interaction: A Backwater Effect on the Yangtze River Perspective

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 7, 16 April 2025.
Abstract Interconnected river‐lake systems are much more complex than either one due to their interactions. The Poyang Lake‐Yangtze River system has received much attention due to the reverse flow from the Yangtze River, which blocks the flow of Poyang Lake and causes extensive inundation.

Signal and Noise in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation at 26°N

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 7, 16 April 2025.
Abstract The Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) plays a crucial role in redistributing heat within the climate system. The RAPID mooring array has observed an AMOC weakening of 1.0 [0.4–1.6] Sv per decade from 2004 to 2023, consistent with climate model projections and not consistent with a collapse in the mid‐21st century.

Biases in Climate Model Global Warming Trends Related to Deficiencies in Southern Ocean Sea Ice Evolution Over Recent Decades

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 7, 16 April 2025.
Abstract Between 1985 and 2014 observations show an expansion of Southern Ocean sea‐ice. This phenomena is not simulated in CMIP6 Atmosphere‐Ocean General Circulation Models (AOGCMs). Here we quantify the impact of this discrepancy on radiative feedback and simulated global temperature trends.
