Crystal Engineering for Catalysis
Annual Review of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, 2018Crystal engineering relies upon the ability to predictively control intermolecular interactions during the assembly of crystalline materials in a manner that leads to a desired (and predetermined) set of properties. Economics, scalability, and ease of design must be leveraged with techniques that manipulate the thermodynamics and kinetics of crystal ...

Engineering Nanoarchitectures for Photonic Crystals
ChemPhysChem, 2003AbstractThe detailed shape of the dense material network of inverse opals has a significant influence on the appearance of band gaps in these photonic crystals. One example of these topologically very similar networks is the skeleton structure, which can show two complete band gaps.

This tutorial review presents a current account of anions in crystal engineering, organized around two main questions: (i) how do anions influence and control crystal structures, and (ii) how do crystal environments recognize and select anions? The first part pertains to deliberate assembly of new crystalline materials using anionic components, by ...

Crystal Engineering: An Outlook for the Future
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2019AbstractCrystal Engineering has traditionally dealt with molecular crystals. It is the understanding of intermolecular interactions in the context of crystal packing and in the utilization of such understanding in the design of new solids with desired physical and chemical properties.

Crystal Engineering with Mercuric Chloride
Crystal Growth & Design, 2002Two new network solids containing mercury ions are reported. The structure of HgCl 4 .H 2 tpt.H 2 O (tpt = 1,3,5-tri(4-pyridyl)-2,4,6-triazine) contains H 2 tpt 2+ cations connected into 1D zigzag chains via hydrogen bonding between protonated and unprotonated pyridyl groups of adjacent cations.
