Vitrification and determination of the crystallization time scales of the bulk-metallic-glass-forming liquid Zr58.5Nb2.8Cu15.6Ni12.8Al10.3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The crystallization kinetics of Zr58.5Nb2.8Cu15.6Ni12.8Al10.3 were studied in an electrostatic levitation (ESL) apparatus. The measured critical cooling rate is 1.75 K/s.

The Crystallization Conjecture: A Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this article we describe the crystallization conjecture. It states that, in appropriate physical conditions, interacting particles always place themselves into periodic configurations, breaking thereby the natural translation-invariance of the system.

Categorifying the tensor product of the Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystal $B^{1,1}$ and a fundamental crystal [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We use Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier (KLR) algebras to categorify a crystal isomorphism between a fundamental crystal and the tensor product of a Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystal and another fundamental crystal, all in affine type. The nodes of the Kirillov-Reshetikhin crystal correspond to a family of "trivial" modules.

Crystallization of a supercooled liquid and of a glass - Ising model approach

open access: yes, 2001
Using Monte Carlo simulations we study crystallization in the three-dimensional Ising model with four-spin interaction. We monitor the morphology of crystals which grow after placing crystallization seeds in a supercooled liquid. Defects in such crystals

Crystallization: Colloidal suspense [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
According to classical nucleation theory, a crystal grows from a small nucleus that already bears the symmetry of its end phase - but experiments with colloids now reveal that, from an amorphous precursor, crystallites with different structures can ...

Crystallization behavior of poly(lactide)/poly(β-hydroxybutyrate)/talc composites. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The authors thank Dr. Patrice Lefrançois (CNAM) for SEM observations. They are also grateful to Pr. Jack R. Plimmer USDA, Agricultural Research Service, USA for his discussions during this work. The morphology and miscibility of commercial poly(lactide ...

Ribbon Crystals

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
A repetitive crystal-like pattern is spontaneously formed upon the twisting of straight ribbons. The pattern is akin to a tessellation with isosceles triangles, and it can easily be demonstrated with ribbons cut from an overhead transparency. We give a general description of developable ribbons using a ruled procedure where ribbons are uniquely ...

Crystals of the neurotrophins [PDF]

open access: yesProtein Science, 1996
AbstractThe neurotrophins show a high degree of amino acid sequence homology, share similar solution properties, and display distinct but parallel functionalities. Here we report the crystallization and preliminary X‐ray characterization of three neurotrophins: brain‐derived neurotrophin, neurotrophin 3, and the heterodimer between brain‐derived ...

Crystal bases and quiver varieties (Geometric construction of crystal bases II) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2001
We give a crystal structure on the set of all irreducible components of Lagrangian subvarieties of quiver varieties. One con show that, as a crystal, it is isomorphic to the crystal base of an irreducible highest weight representation of a quantized universal enveloping algebra.

Thermal transfer simulation regarding the rotational moulding of polyamide 11 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Simulation of thermal phenomena in rotational moulding is very important to follow the evolution of the temperature in various zones of this process. It was a question of modelling heat gradients developing in rota-tional moulding part.
