Phasor measurement and CT saturation compensation through embedding

2013 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2013
Phasor measurement measures the amplitude and phase angle of the signal to determine the health of the power system. If a fault occurs on a transmission line, the input current of a relay may contain harmonics and exponentially decaying DC offset. This paper proposes an embedding-based scheme, which transfers a power system signal to the phase space ...

An adaptive differential relay for CT saturation based on wavelet Transform

IEEE PES T&D 2010, 2010
Differential protection relays may false tripping for external faults due to current transformer saturation (CT). This paper presents an adaptive technique for transformer differential protection against saturation of current transformers, based on differential currents. A Wavelet Index (WI) by wavelet Transform has been devised using extracted feature

A busbar protection technique and its performance during CT saturation and CT ratio-mismatch

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2000
This paper describes a digital technique for protecting busbars. The technique uses positive- and negative-sequence models of the power system in a fault-detection algorithm. While phase voltages and currents are used to detect faults, parameters of the power system are not used.

A new differential protection scheme for busbar considering CT saturation effect

2011 24th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering(CCECE), 2011
The protection of busbar demands high integrity and high speed relaying scheme. This paper presents a new differential relaying scheme for the protection of busbar. The proposed scheme depends on the difference of the value of incoming and outgoing line currents of the respective phase at a particular bus.

A novel CT saturation identification scheme for differential protection of generators

2011 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2011
A new CT saturation block scheme for generator differential protection implemented with mathematical morphology filter is presented. By use of the excellent singularity detecting together with the noise-repressing abilities, the time difference between fault occurrence and differential current emergence instant can be extracted in real time with very ...

Distance Element Performance Under Conditions of CT Saturation

2008 61st Annual Conference for Protective Relay Engineers, 2008
Distance elements are widely used on transmission, subtransmission, and even distribution systems. Distance-based schemes are also a very economical and simple approach to protecting these lines. The ease of use of distance elements, especially in modern digital relays, has expanded the application to shorter and shorter lines.

Fast and Reliable CT Saturation Detection Using a Combined Method

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2009
Busbar differential relays may operate incorrectly for external faults due to current-transformer (CT) saturation. In this paper, two different techniques are suggested to detect CT saturation. The first proposed technique is based on the fact that the waveshape of the CT secondary current changes significantly at the instant of the saturation.

Microstructure of saturated bentonites characterized by X-ray CT observations

Engineering Geology, 2009
Abstract Bentonite is a very attractive raw material as a compacted clay liner at general waste disposal sites and also as a buffer material at radioactive waste disposal sites. It has been considered that the permeability of bentonite, the most important index for evaluating barrier materials, is closely related to its microstructure. Recent studies

A novel CT saturation detecting algorithm unaffected by a remanent flux

2001 Power Engineering Society Summer Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.01CH37262), 2001
This paper proposes a novel current transformer (CT) saturation detecting algorithm unaffected by a remanent flux. At the instants of the beginning/end of saturation, the magnetizing inductance of the core changes significantly, resulting in severe wave distortion of the secondary current.
