Temporal Evolution of Microstructures in Aqueous CTAB/SOS and CTAB/HDBS Solutions

open access: yesLangmuir, 2002
Vesicles are formed spontaneously when aqueous solutions of cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium octyl sulfate (SOS), as well as CTAB and dodecyl benzene sulfonic acid (HDBS), are mixed in well-defined ratios. Microstructures in the starting solutions are composition-dependent and, in these experiments, include spherical and rodlike ...

Adsorption of phenol by MMT-CTAB and WPT-CTAB: Equilibrium, kinetic, and thermodynamic study

open access: yesParticulate Science and Technology, 2017
ABSTRACTIn this study, the phenol adsorption capacity of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide modified clays (MMT-CTAB) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide modified pulp tea (WPT-CTAB) were studied. In batch adsorption experiments performed with MMT-CTAB, the effects of parameters such contact time, phenol concentration, pH of solution and adsorbent dosage ...

Conformation of gramicidin-A in CTAB micellar media

open access: yesJournal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 2003
Gramicidin A (gA) is a linear pentadecapeptide, which exhibits various conformations depending on the environment. The conformational behavior of gA in spherical and rod-shaped cationic micelles formed by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant has been studied using circular dichroism (CD) and fluorescence spectroscopy, and a probable ...

Effect of CTAB concentration on the properties of ZnO nanoparticles produced by laser ablation method in CTAB solution

Optics and Laser Technology, 2018
Abstract ZnO nanoparticles were produced by pulsed laser ablation of a high purity (99.99%) zinc metal target in different concentration of CTAB solution. A Q-switched Nd:YAG laser operating at wavelengths of 1064 nm with pulse width of 7 ns and 10 Hz repetition rate was employed to irradiate the Zn target in CTAB.

FTIR investigation of CTAB–Al–montmorillonite complexes

Spectrochimica Acta - Part A: Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy, 2007
In this study, CTAB-Al-montmorillonite complexes were synthesized by pre-modifying montmorillonite using different concentrations of surfactant (resulting in different surfactant loadings and basal spacings), then pillaring the organoclays with hydroxy-Al cations.

Dynamics of CTAB in hybrid CTAB-hydroxyapatite system

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2016
Synthetic hydroxyapatite (HAp) is an important material in biomedical engineering due to its excellent biocompatibility and bioactivity. Here we report dynamics of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) in HAp composite, prepared by co-precipitation method, as studied by quasielastic neutron scattering (QENS) technique.

CTAB precipitation of cestode DNA

Parasitology Today, 1987
DNA probes are proving extremely valuable in the characterization o f cestodes - as well as other parasites. In this article, Kok Wei Yap and Andrew Thompson discuss some of the problems of DNA isolation, stressing the need for a gentle and economical procedure such as CTAB precipitation.

Effect of CTAB and procain hydrochloride on neutral red microstructure in CTAB micelle

Colloid Journal, 2008
The effects of cationic surfactant (CTAB) and procaine hydrochloride on the microstructures of neutral red (NR) are studied by UV-Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy and surface tension and conductivity measurements. The obtained results show that the acidic structure of NR can be gradually transformed to its neutral structure with an increase ...

Structure and stoichiometry of CTAB–DNA complexes

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2020
We have studied the structure of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide–DNA complexes using small angle x-ray diffraction and elemental analysis. These complexes exhibit a two-dimensional hexagonal phase. The diffraction data have been analyzed using electron density models based on two different structures of these complexes proposed in the literature, which ...

Effect of CTAB and CTAB in the presence of hyaluronan on selected human cell types

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2014
Abstract The effect of different concentrations of CTAB (in the range of 0.2 mM −2  mM, i.e., including its critical micelle concentration) on viability of selected human cells (osteoblasts and keratinocytes) was studied by a variety of methods (immunocytochemical and biochemical), testing the cell viability and the metabolism, to get a complex ...
