Functional study of Phaeodactylum tricornutum Seipin highlights specificities of lipid droplets biogenesis in diatoms

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 247, Issue 5, Page 2245-2269, September 2025.
Summary Diatoms are a major phylum of microalgae, playing crucial ecological roles. They derive from secondary endosymbiosis, leading to a complex intracellular architecture. Their ability to store oil in lipid droplets (LDs) upon unfavourable conditions has raised interest for applications, in particular biofuels, yet Lipid Droplet (LD) biogenesis ...

Atypical Presentation of Cat‐Scratch Disease in a 30‐Year‐Old Female: A Case Study

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Cat‐scratch disease (CSD) is a zoonotic infection caused by the Gram‐negative bacterium Bartonella henselae, typically transmitted through the scratch or bite of a cat. This case report highlights an atypical presentation of CSD in a 30‐year‐old female pet groomer with prolonged fever, fatigue, and axillary lymphadenopathy.

Evolution of the Neopsylla hongyangensis Mitogenome: Insights Into the Mitogenomic Evolution of the Orders Siphonaptera and the Phthiraptera

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 3, March 2025.
The Neopsylla hongyangensis is an important medical insect that transmits plague. We sequenced the mitogenome of N. hongyangensis and constructed a phylogenetic tree for the order Siphonaptera. In addition, we explored the mitogenomic evolution of the orders Siphonaptera and Phthiraptera, which both belong to the class Insects, on warm‐blooded animals ...

Diversity of lice and flea‐ and lice‐borne pathogens in free‐ranging dogs in Uzbekistan

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 216-222, March 2025.
Lice (Trichodectes canis, Linognathus africanus and Bovicola bovis) and fleas were collected from dogs across five regions of Uzbekistan and subjected to molecular analysis. Molecular screening detected Dipylidium caninum and Bartonella spp. in fleas, while Rickettsia spp. were identified in both fleas and lice.

Various hosts ofCtenocephalides felis strongylus

open access: yesVeterinary Quarterly, 1982
Infestation of exotic and indigenous breeds of cattle, sheep and goats with Ctenocephalides felis strongylus in a dairy farm is reported. Many of the fleas were engorged with fresh blood. Traps set up in the pens caught two bush rats which were heavily infested with the same flea species, most of which were also engorged with fresh blood.

Rickettsia felis in Ctenocephalides spp. Fleas, Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2002
In June 2000, suspected cases of Brazilian spotted fever (BSF) occurred in Coronel Fabriciano Municipality, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Pooled fleas collected near two fatal cases contained rickettsial DNA. The nucleotide sequence alignment of the 391-bp segment of the 17-kDa protein gene showed that the products were identical to each other and to the

A crucial active site network of titratable residues guides catalysis and NAD+ binding in human succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 34, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Human succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase is a mitochondrial enzyme fundamental in the neurotransmitter γ‐aminobutyric acid catabolism. It catalyzes the NAD+‐dependent oxidative degradation of its derivative, succinic semialdehyde, to succinic acid.
