Functional Measures Developed for Clinical Populations Identified Impairment Among Active Workers with Upper Extremity Disorders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
PURPOSE: Few studies have explored measures of function across a range of health outcomes in a general working population. Using four upper extremity (UE) case definitions from the scientific literature, we described the performance of functional ...

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Electronic structure and transport properties of Cu-deficient kuramite Cu3-xSnS4

open access: yes, 2015
Electrical and thermal transport properties of Cu-deficient kuramite Cu3-xSnS4 (CTS) was examined as a possible earth-abundant thermoelectric material. Crystallographic structure of CTS was characterized by partial disorder between Cu and Sn. In contrast

Tensile strain increases expression of CCN2 and COL2A1 by activating TGF-beta-Smad2/3 pathway in chondrocytic cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Physiologic mechanical stress stimulates expression of chondrogenic genes, such as multifunctional growth factor CYR61/CTGF/NOV (CCN) 2 and alpha 1(II) collagen (COL2A1), and maintains cartilage home-ostasis.

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Personal and workplace psychosocial risk factors for carpal tunnel syndrome: a pooled study cohort [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
BACKGROUND: Between 2001 and 2010, six research groups conducted coordinated multiyear, prospective studies of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) incidence in US workers from various industries and collected detailed subject-level exposure information with ...

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.
