Cu-based metalorganic systems: an ab initio study of the electronic structure

open access: yes, 2007
Within a first principles framework, we study the electronic structure of the recently synthesized polymeric coordination compound Cu(II)-2,5-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)-1,4-dihydroxybenzene (CuCCP), which has been suggested to be a good realization of a ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Crystal structure and electronic structure of quaternary semiconductors Cu$_2$ZnTiSe$_4$ and Cu$_2$ZnTiS$_4$ for solar cell absorber

open access: yes, 2012
We design two new I2-II-IV-VI4 quaternary semiconductors Cu$_2$ZnTiSe$_4$ and Cu$_2$ZnTiS$_4$, and systematically study the crystal and electronic structure by employing first-principles electronic structure calculations.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Pathogenesis and advances in immunotherapy for type 1 diabetes treatment

open access: yesBiotechnology Reports
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease marked by selective destruction of pancreatic β-cells, resulting in absolute insulin deficiency. Although insulin replacement remains the standard therapy, it does not address the underlying autoimmune ...

Flow Rate and Interference Studies for Copper Binding to a Silica-Immobilized Humin Polymer Matrix: Column and Batch Experiments

open access: yesBioinorganic Chemistry and Applications, 2005
Batch and column experiments were performed to determine the Cu(II) binding capacity of silica-immobilized humin biomass. For column studies, 500 bed volumes of a 0.1 mM Cu(II) solution were passed through humin packed columns at the flow rates of 1, 1.5,

SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Toxicity of copper (II) metal complexes with amino acids ligands: A study of activity in Aedes aegypti larvae [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
The larval control of Aedes aegypti has been done mainly by insecticides, which cause resistance and environmental contamination and have a high-cost development and application.

Interplay between structure and magnetism in the low-dimensional spin system $K(C_8H_{16}O_4)_2CuCl_3{*}H_2O$

open access: yes, 2017
Materials based on a crown ether complex together with magnetic ions, especially Cu(II), can be used to synthesize new low dimesional quantum spin systems. We have prepared the new crown ether complex Di-\mu-chloro-bis(12-crown-4)-aquqdichloro-copper(II)-
