Studying When to Add Biological Therapy to Cytotoxic Therapy in Advanced Cancer Care Using Real World Data: How to Avoid Design Choices That Generate Immortal Time. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Background Since real‐world data lack information on treatment assignment (usually the only information available is treatment prescription/administration) and early outcomes can happen in advanced cancer, some design choices may introduce immortal time due to selection or due to treatment strategy misclassification.

The OLGIMA system for gastric cancer risk assessment. A useful method based on the histological Sydney consensus. [PDF]
The new OLGIMA method for histological gastric cancer risk assessment is based on the severity of glandular atrophy and intestinal metaplasia, in both antrum and corpus, according to the Updated Sydney classification. The highest score of either atrophy or intestinal metaplasia from each location will be used for the final OLGIMA stage.

Interobserver variability of histopathological assessment in pT1 colorectal carcinoma. [PDF]
Interobserver variability among 20 gastrointestinal pathologists was evaluated on 80 pT1 colorectal carcinoma cases. A pilot phase was followed by a consensus meeting, then a larger concordance study was performed. High interobserver agreement was achieved after consensus for histological grade, lymphovascular invasion, tumour budding, poorly ...

Are We Witnessing a Speciation Continuum? Evidence From Current and Past Gene Flow in the Genus Oritrophium s.s. (Asteraceae) From the Tropical High Andes. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Determining species boundaries is key for appropriately assessing biodiversity. However, the continuity of the speciation process makes delimiting species a difficult task, especially for recently diverged taxa. Furthermore, past introgression may leave traces that result in reticulate evolutionary patterns, challenging the estimation of ...

Germline pathogenic variants in HIC1 DNA binding domains are associated with familial serrated polyposis syndrome. [PDF]
What's new? Serrated polyposis syndrome has been associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer. HIC1 is a tumor suppressor gene commonly silenced in serrated polyps and several cancers. This study suggests HIC1 as a novel germline predisposition factor to serrated polyposis syndrome, with variants altering gene transcriptional regulation and ...

Polymorphic Single-Nucleotide Variants in miRNA Genes and the Susceptibility to Colorectal Cancer: Combined Evaluation by Pairwise and Network Meta-Analysis, Thakkinstian's Algorithm and FPRP Criterium. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Background Considerable epidemiological studies have examined the correlation between polymorphic single‐nucleotide variants (SNPs) in miRNA genes and colorectal carcinoma (CRC) risk, yielding inconsistent results. Herein, we sought to systematically investigate the association between miRNA‐SNPs and CRC susceptibility by combined evaluation ...

RNA-sequencing: A reliable tool to unveil transcriptional landscape of paediatric B-other acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. [PDF]
Using current standard‐of‐care tests used in clinical practice, 20%–30% of B‐cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (BCP‐ALL) patients remain unclassified. These patients are grouped into a heterogeneous category named B‐other ALL and are all treated with the same intensity. The application of RNA‐seq, together with the integration of standard‐of‐
