Abstract In this work, a process is established for recovering cubic boron nitride (cBN) grains from fired vitrified cBN products. The abrasive grains are recovered by an acid washing technique. Two methods were used to recover the abrasive grains, namely with and without pre-heating.

Fabrication and properties of Mo contacts to amorphous cubic boron nitride (a-cBN) layers
Diamond and Related Materials, 1996Abstract Mo contacts of areas varying from 2.4 to 9.4 mm2 were electron beam deposited onto undoped and sulphur doped a-cBN layers. Layers were grown by the reactive pulse plasma method on oxidized, or oxidized and subsequently covered with Au, silicon substrates.

Photoluminescence spectroscopy of electron‐irradiation induced defects in cubic boron nitride (cBN)
physica status solidi (c), 2004Cubic boron nitride is an ultra-hard material that is widely used in industrial applications where its specific mechanical properties make it the material of choice. Compared to diamond, which has similar applications, relatively little is known about the defects in cBN, their structure, electronic properties and their possible effects on the ...

An Expert System of Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) Grinding Wheel Dressing in Cam Grinding
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2012Rule based reasoning (RBR) embodied in cam grinding will extend the application of knowledge-based system by utilizing previous knowledge and experience. However, it is very difficult to make rules without exact exceptions. Knowledge acquisition also is a bottleneck problem.

Influence of Cutting Force on Bimetallic Piston Machining by a Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) Tool
Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2012Bimetallic pistons are most widely used in diesel engine vehicles for weight reduction and enhanced performance with long life. Aluminum alloy is reinforced with cast iron insert to realize the bimetallic pistons. The bonding between aluminum and cast iron is achieved through a patented process named the Al-Fin process.

Growth conditions of the cubic phase cBN in boron nitride films
Thin Solid Films, 2006The nucleation and the subsequent coalescence period of the cubic phase cBN in sputter deposited BN-films is characterized by a shrinking of the film thickness. This is due to the transition of hBN into the denser cBN-phase which occurs inside a highly textured hBN base layer.

In this article, cubic boron nitride (CBN) and coated carbide tools were used for finish turning of hardened steel with continuous and interrupted surfaces. The objective of this work is to investigate the conditions under which carbide tools can give optimal results in terms of both tool wear and surface integrity of the machined surface in comparison

Titanium has been perceived as a material that is difficult to machine. Manufacturers are known that, with proper procedures, titanium can be fabricated using techniques no more difficult than those used for machining SS316. The machining of hard workpiece materials requires significantly harder cutting materials. Advancements in the aerospace, nuclear

Cubic boron nitride (cBN) particle-dispersed-aluminum (Al) matrix composites were fabricated from the powder mixture composed of cBN, pure Al and Al-5mass% Si alloy in liquid and solid co-existent state by spark plasma sintering (SPS) process. Al/cBN composites were well consolidated by heating at a temperature range between 798 K and 876 K for 1.56 ks

Abstract Deposition of cBN (5∼20 μm) is of great technological importance but poses significant difficulty in terms of depositing it from vapor phase(s). Initial proof-of-concept work has indicated that a thick cBN–TiN composite coating can be deposited in a practical hybrid deposition process using electrostatic spray coating (ESC) and chemical ...
