Fruit Quality and Fusarium Wilt Race 2 Resistance in Cucumis melo Breeding Lines and Their F1 Hybrids

open access: yesPlant Breeding, Volume 144, Issue 6, Page 875-885, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Cucumis melo, a sweet‐tasting fruit from the Cucurbitaceae family, is popular in global markets. While some varieties of C. melo are used for pickling or salads, melons such as cantaloupes and honeydews are consumed as a dessert. Desirable appearance, shelf life and palatability are crucial in determining a variety's success.

Identification of candidate genes for stigma color using a genome‐wide association study in centipedegrass

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 65, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract Centipedegrass, Eremochloa ophiuroides [Munro] Hack., is a low‐maintenance, warm‐season turfgrass commonly grown in the southeastern United States. Limited information is known about the genomic regions that control centipedegrass traits, including stigma color.

Genetic divergence studies in muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.)

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2018
Thirty five muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) genotypes were evaluated in a randomized block design with two replications to check its genetic diversity. Based on D2 analysis these genotypes were grouped in to 11 clusters. Out of eleven clusters, cluster I was the largest, comprising of seven genotypes.

Twenty years of cucurbit breeding research at the World Vegetable Center

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 65, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract The contribution of cucurbit crops to global food and nutrition security is immense. They are economically and nutritionally important to smallholder farmers in Asia, who account for 81% of global cucurbit production. World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg) has been focused for 20 years on four species: bitter gourd (Momordica charantia), ridge ...

Diffusion and bulk flow in phloem loading - a theoretical analysis of the polymer trap mechanism in plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Plants create sugar in the mesophyll cells of their leaves by photosynthesis. This sugar, mostly sucrose, has to be loaded via the bundle sheath into the phloem vascular system (the sieve elements), where it is distributed to growing parts of the plant ...
