Validation of smoking-related virtual environments for cue exposure therapy

Addictive Behaviors, 2012
Craving is considered one of the main factors responsible for relapse after smoking cessation. Cue exposure therapy (CET) consists of controlled and repeated exposure to drug-related stimuli in order to extinguish associated responses. The main objective of this study was to assess the validity of 7 virtual reality environments for producing craving in

Cue-Exposure Therapy to Decrease Alcohol Craving in Virtual Environment

CyberPsychology & Behavior, 2007
During abstinence from alcohol, craving is elicited by the cues and contexts previously associated with alcohol, which contribute to relapse. To prevent the craving and relapse experienced by alcoholics, cue-exposure therapy (CET) has been used to extinguish the association between alcohol and alcohol-related cues and contexts.

Cue exposure in moderation drinking: A comparison with cognitive–behavior therapy.

Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1997
To date, the published controlled trials on exposure to alcohol cues have had an abstinence treatment goal. A modification of cue exposure (CE) for moderation drinking, which incorporated priming doses of alcohol, could train participants to stop drinking after 2 to 3 drinks. This study examined the effects of modified CE within sessions, combined with

‘Cue-exposure’-therapie bij heroïneafhankelijke gebruikers

Verslaving, 2007
‘Cue-exposure’-therapie (CET) is een vorm van therapie gebaseerd op principes van klassieke conditionering. Trek in psychotrope middelen is aangeleerd en kan in principe dus ook weer afgeleerd of ‘uitgedoofd’ worden. Dit wordt gedaan door afhankelijke gebruikers het middel van genot voor te houden maar hun gewoonlijke respons (het middel gebruiken) te ...

Cue Exposure Therapy for the Treatment of Opiate Addiction: Results of a Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, 2007
Background: Persistent cue reactivity to drug-related stimuli is a well-known phenomenon among abstinent drug users and has been found to be a predictor of relapse. Cue exposure therapy (CET) aims to reduce this cue reactivity by exposing abstinent drug users to conditioned drug-related stimuli while preventing their habitual ...

VIRTUAL REALITY CUE EXPOSURE THERAPY FOR THE TREATMENT OF TOBACCO DEPENDENCE.

Journal of cyber therapy and rehabilitation
Researchers and clinicians have recently begun using Virtual Reality (VR) to create immersive and interactive cue exposure paradigms. The current study aimed to assess the effectiveness of individual cue exposure therapy (CET), using smoking-related VR cues (smoking-VR) as a smoking cessation treatment compared to a placebo-VR (neutral cue) treatment ...

Using virtual reality for cue-exposure therapy in a case of bulimia nervosa

2016
This case study describes the use of a virtual reality-based cue-exposure therapy (VR-CET) for a patient diagnosed with bulimia nervosa (BN) who was resistant to standard cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). After six VR-CE booster sessions, both anxiety and food craving dropped significantly.
